Decent double-cut guitar
damo, 12.09.2019
I'll preface this by saying that I own mostly HB guitars, no high end big names. I'm a hobby guitarist, and my review is based on existing HB guitars and quality comparisons.

Very lightweight, slim bodied copy of the famous guitar. I expect and prefer this type of guitar to have a heavy body and thick neck, this one has neither.

The red paint allows you to see the grain at points, the grain is a bit mismatched.

Tuners work ok, some of them are stiff and unresponsive.

No sharp frets, although the frets themselves are tarnished and scratchy. The Roseacer fretboard is dry and will need oil upon first string change.

Ugly joins in the wood at the neck, the heel is made of multiple pieces, and it looks like they left themselves short in manufacture and had to bung in a few extra small pieces.

Sounds are ok. They may improve when I put on better strings. It's a bummer to have to replace the strings immediately, but the ones that are on feel very cheap and nasty.

Overall I'm a little "meh" about this guitar. I've owned similarly priced SG copies before, but this one rates poorly by comparison. It is lighter, the pickups lack warmth and beefiness, the hardware is only ok. Also there are lots of small, annoying blemishes, paint chips etc.

I think I'm resigned to only buying VT or deluxe range HB guitars in future, my quality experience of HB guitars has been very mixed over the last while, and I have noticed an increase in price with a gradual cheapening of components in the various HB guitars I've bought over the last few years.

The price on HB guitars is only worthwhile if you are getting reasonably good quality and value for money and tbh with this guitar and some of my other recent HB purchases I'm not so sure.

I would say, buy the DC custom for the extra money, this guitar is very much priced at its quality level, and not "better for the money" the way some HB guitars are. My TE-90 FLT is a great guitar for the money, this one, not so much.

Also there seems to be huge variation in quality and QC across the different models and body types, I'm guessing there may be different factories with better or poorer QC.

The red gloss finish looks beautiful. It sounds and feels good with the shorter scale length. It came already set up perfectly out of the box, just needed to re-tune it. I've had it for about a month now and have had no problems with it. It's not the traditional SG shape, the upper horn side is slanted so it's more like the ESP viper.

There are only three negative things I can say about this guitar, but these are mostly problems with SG-style guitars in general, and not this guitar specifically. First problem is that it has a bit of neck dive, which seems to be common in a lot of SG-style guitars. Second problem is I don't like the location of the strap button, as it gets in the way when trying to access the highest frets. Third problem which is very minor is that the pickup selector feels a bit floppy, but it works completely fine nonetheless.

I don't think you could really tell the difference between this and a 1000$ gibson sg. It's good
