Three days across the pond!
jojoChambana 15.10.2021
The Aeolus is my second Harley Benton guitar. I purchased an HB 35 Plus a few days earlier off of Reverb here in the States and was blown away with its gorgeous finish and fit, tone, and by the fact that it was intonated so well out of the box. After viewing several YouTube reviews, I got sucked into the Aeolus and decided to give ordering direct from Thomann a try.
UPS sent my first Aeolus on a detour via the octagon, and it appeared on my doorstep sans belt. Thomann's support staff quickly responded to the damage in shipping. Once I sent them proof that it was shipped back, they sent me a new Aeolus, and it made it to my home in Illinois in three days! I live a state away from Sweetwater, and I've had similar disasters take longer to get resolved. I am proud to buy American when I can afford it, but Thomann has opened my eyes that it is possible to receive excellent service and support overseas. It may seem silly to pay the extra money for shipping for such an inexpensive item. However, the quality of the product I received, besides the excellent service, made it worth it to me.
The Aeolus checked off some desired boxes for me. The neck is fantastic. I cannot believe the feel of the satin finish. The stainless steel frets were dressed nicely with no tooling marks or gritty feel to them. I checked every single note on the guitar, and none of them buzzed. Unreal!
Grover locking tuners and a GraphTech nut? Why aren't these features standard equipment on Gibson guitars nowadays? The Tesla pickups sound spectacular through my Marshall DSL 40. But, on the other hand, it makes me want to pick up a cheap Peavey to hear the clean sound through a solid-state amp!
The other significant aspect of these guitars is that they are beautiful instruments to have in your collection. My wife was shocked when I told her how little I paid for them. She held the Aeolus in her hands and could tell by the heft that it wasn't a cheap toy. She pointed to my Les Paul Classic and asked, "So what? Does this mean you are getting rid of this one to make room for these new ones?" I laughed at her suggestion, but the prospect had crossed my mind. I mean, I could sell the Gibson and get four Harley Benton's for the money it would bring, right?
I don't typically write these reviews for a good reason. Thomann and the Harley Benton brand have provided me with an experience I've never had before. I've owned many guitars over the past 30 years. Unfortunately, none of them have inspired me to write about them.
Bravo!

V
Unfortunately disappointed
Viktor1972 22.06.2021
I have 6 Harley Bentons at present. I did order more and had to send back a couple because of guitars due to several issues. I was really excited when i saw this Aeolus, but was disappointed when i received the guitar. The colors do not match the picture at all. The binding is not light as in the picture, but dark so that it does not stand out against the wood. The color of the guitar itself was pure brown, no flame what so ever. When you look into the f-holes you see a pure massacre (the wood is not cut out with any care and not symmetrical) and the f-holes had damaged parts in it where the paintwork was completely gone. I personally also don't feel that the Tesla pick-ups are an improvement over the Roswell pick-ups, but that of course is a matter of taste. This guitar should not have passed quality control. The locking tuners are a great plus, i do love those and the idea of the guitar is brilliant. A better quality control would have prevented that this guitar was sent out however.

I
Great guitar, thick neck, QC issue.
IUfan 12.09.2021
Had some major issues with nut depth on this guitar, ordered a new nut from graphtech and fixed it perfectly. It's a great guitar with a lot of tonal options, the tesla pickups are decent enough, the action is rather hard to set low enough to be really easily playable and not get severe fret buzzing. It's a decent guitar, but definitely needed better QC.

AD
The best so far
Aaron D 12.07.2021
I can't say enough good things about this one. It has every feature you could cram into a much more expensive guitar. The nut is the best so far of any Harley Benton I've played. The frets feel great. The neck profile is a bit chunkier and the satin finish makes it feel really fast.

Pros:
This thing is punching WAY above its weight class. A guitar this inexpensive has no right to be among all time favorites but it absolutely is.

Cons:
If I have to give it a con (and trust me, I'm really nitpicking here) It's the cosmetics of the neck. It is not as flamed as in the photos. The transition point of the gloss black to the satin flame is also pretty abrupt. That's it.

Seriously, buy one.
