I live in an area with really high relative humidity. Which doesn't help my guitars, considering how my hands sweat profusively well before our smouldering summer seasons.
I looked skeptically at the GraphTec Chops PrePlay remedy when it was first presented... go figure, I can't stand hair conditioners even when in winter my hands go sore-red!
Much as I tended to see this as a sort of snake oil, I've grown tired of replacing strings on those basses and guitars for which my favourite brand doesn't make suitable sets.
So I decided to give it a try, and I must candidly confess I was totally off-track in my prejudiced skepticism: concoction is really effective, and I couldn't find any side-effects to it so far.
I've been using it all through the summer, fall and winter. It's not an anti-perspirant, so it does not block your vapour and sweat from being released (something I feared before buying it).
It's just that the acidity and aggressiveness of your sweating is greatly reduced, if not downright totally, without any unpleasant smell, and without hands remaining any greasy, moist or sticky.
And I've saved not just strings, which shall anyway be filed under "consumables", but also pickguard-, pickup- and pot screws, and bridge saddles, too, that I used to replace regularly at the end of hot season for obvious rust traces.
Whatever does the trick went obviously unmentioned on the box, but the manufacturer has indeed done the homework right, and the research behind this formula seem to have been thoroughly conducted.
A word of advice to novice users is worth here, though: don't over do with quantity! Even if you have big hands, like I do, don't be offed by the modest quantity released through its nozzle.
I realized I was pumping out two or three times the right quantity, just for fear it wasn't enough. Well, it is, and sparingly applied it works possibly even better. On the finish of your guitar, too!
Was only able to test the product one because the canister was almost empty. However, I am sure this is a one time problem. The product really works. I can play for a long time with no sweat on my hands. It also seems to help preserve the strings for a longer time. Works best if I wash hands before use. Pros: very efficient saves money as strings last longer. Cons: small bottle, when playing a lot it wil probably run out a bit too soon. Should be a "deal". "Pay for 3 get 5"
