A dream in red.

Oliver59, 14.04.2013
Hi folks here times a first assessment to this guitar which me well and safely packaged (as not otherwise accustomed by Thomann) has reached.
Guitar unpacked a black simple Gibson case. Inside, finally, the good old yellow plush. Looks great. In it embedded the new red beauty. Then the guitar lifted out of the case. First impression ... the guitar is incredibly light. Even lighter than my custom shop Fender Eric Clapton. The cherry finish has succeeded phenomenally.

The processing is modeled down to the smallest detail of an original 1963 ES 335 and top processed. Well times equal to the small trial amplifier at home connected and a bit angetestet. Since that four hours have passed and actually one would not want to put them out of the hand. The slim taper neck is the "hammer". Had already some Paulas with 50's Neck in the hands and already possessed. Could never really make me happy, because these necks are already a decent pound in the hand. I know there are many who like this form of necks; I personally do not. From the first hour onwards you feel at home on this neck. The site is now a factory setting of Gibson or Thomann has once again laid out the side position is absolutely perfect. No rattling over the entire "bravo" fingerboard.

Let us now turn to the most important ... the sound. For comparison, I have a copy from Korea at home which I bought a year ago. In the meantime, these pickups have been incorporated into a German company with the initial letter "A", which can now be read everywhere that they are among the best PAF replicas at all. I think you know from what pickups I write. This may certainly be true, as they have improved the sound of Korea ES a lot. Nevertheless, there are worlds in between ... I have been playing guitar for many years and the sound of this Gibson is by far the best thing I ever had under my fingers. The sounds so sweet so from the box, that it is almost kneeling down there. Have fun playing Eric Clapton's "Have you ever loved a woman" from the Hyde Park concert where he plays his ES 335 of 1964. I was never closer to this unique Gibson ES tone. That conjures a smile to your face which no longer wants to stop :-) From me ne very clear purchase recommendation. Tomorrow we go to the Proberaum. I'm curious how she will listen to my Fender 57 Tweed Twin.

Who is looking for a high end Gibson ES 335 is right here. As far as I know, this Anniversary model is a limited edition. So you should not wait so long. So many of them will probably not be built.

1963 Reissue

JRB, 13.12.2013
First of all, I must positively comment on the detail, the Gibson now finally times the day, so that one can really speak of a reissue here:
Correct body shape, correct color, double-ring mechanism, nylon rider at the bridge, nylon saddle (very tuning stability!), A pleasant neck profile that becomes thicker to the 12th and a suitcase with yellow interior.

The processing I still leave as okay go through:
The carton came sealed to my home, which means that the guitar was not touched since the Custom Shop in Memphis. Nevertheless, the suitcase already had slight traces of use, the knobs were pitched and could be solved only with raw force.
To complain about this may seem small in the beginning, but you have to always keep the purchase price of 3099EUR (meanwhile a little less).
Except for the COA and the guarantee card there is also no Case Candy ...
The rest of the guitar was adequately processed, especially the Rosewood fingerboard surprised me positively, since Gibson lately had massive problems in this regard.
Here, optics and haptics are very satisfying.

The sound is also a whole corner closer to the original, as was the case with the previous reissues, however, Burstbucker were installed here, which are not everyone's thing ... I had the impression of quite dominant heights.

Unfortunately, I still have to comment on the poti:
The complete control range took place between 8-10, among which there was only Mumpf. I do not know if this has something to do with an error or with a vintage-true circuit.
What made the guitar unplayable for me (and so I sent it back) was the sticky paint.
The smell may still be taste, but if you stick permanently to the neck makes the guitar no longer fun, is no longer inspiring, is no longer played and you should alternatively look for a 3000EUR "player".
As an extremely decorative perfume dispenser / flyer, the guitar is still to be used ;-)

Thus a rather penetrating impression, although good approaches are present!
You can see that Gibson has been doing more stuff since last year, but price and quality (control) are still not in a balanced relationship.
