Inexpensive and effective
27.10.2016
I bought this file thinking that I would buy some cheap option to get started on fretwork and then buy a proper one when I got good at it... Actually, I've done many setups by now and this file is withstanding the test of time with no issues whatsoever

It does the job pretty well and works fine on any Medium to Jumbo frets, and will last for a long time.

Pros:
- Quality file that fits 80 to 90% of frets sizes out there
- I like the cable a lot and find it really comfortable for the task. Considering that you shouldn't get too comfortable while you crown the frets (so you stop and don't file away too much), this provides you with the right amount of comfort.
- Being double-sided, it ensures that the file will really last for a long time
- The file is very long, which means you can cover the whole fret surface while crowning, without hitting the guitar neck with the file's cable

Cons:
Nothing that I can think of...

In sum, I would much rather buy another one of these when this one reaches its end-of-life, than getting a very expensive one that maybe will last for the same amount of time.

Excellent
Briano, 09.12.2014
I bought this file to crown the Stainless Steel frets on the guitar I was working on. I assumed I might get one or two guitars done before the file wore down, but about 10 guitars later I am still using it and there is plenty of guitars left in it. Buyers should know that working with stainless steel frets, will shorten the lifespan of any file but this has served me very well. I only use it after I level the frets , to file the sides of the frets to remove the flat surface. which it does very well. It takes only from the sides of the fretwire which is exactly what you want! If you are working on regular nickel frets this file will last in you toolbox for a long long time. Its double sided which is great... It a good solid build... not to heavy and very comfortable to hold. Highly recommended!

Great!
PlayerV, 18.05.2019
I have been searching for a while a cheap file, that does not destroy your frets. And this file really surprised me. It is quality built and it is a fit for most of the fret sizes. Recommended.

I'm no Luthier but this will be fine for my needs
Mofo, 12.04.2017
I'm not a skilled professional when it comes to this kind of thing but I usually take care of my guitars and bases myself, rather than take them to a shop, so I know what is being done and know it's being done the way i want.

With that in mind i decided to buy some more specialised tools, including this fret file. I was really pleased/surprised to see a Thomann own brand one and snapped it up.

It's a very inexpensive way to give this a try and see if i can get the results I'm after.

I bought a 80's bass on Ebay that had been pretty well played and was in need of a fret dressing. This did the trick! They're not perfect but that may be more my skills (or perhaps they were too far gone already...) but It's made a badly buzzing mess, playable again. I'm really happy!

It was very easy to use, comfortable and durable. I'm sure there are better tools for the job out there but I doubt they'd be at this price point so I'd say it's a 5 star product

Does the job
27.07.2016
I'd levelled the frets on a re-furbished neck, using new stainless steel wire, and (due to the "characteristics" of the old neck) quite a few frets were quite badly flat on their crowns.

Used this file to redo the crowns, and I'm very happy with the results.

I would say that the hard stainless wire I was using is much harder to file than regular nickel wire, so it took a bit of effort, but the file seems to have coped really well and the finished frets look (and play) good.

Nice file to crown the frets
Pete-plays-guitar, 02.09.2017
I have used this now on a few guitars and very pleased with the results. After levelling the frets and then crowing using this then moving to 600 & 1000 grade wet and dry sandpaper and then polishing compound I have shiny well rounded frets and no buzzing frets.
If I was doing this for a living then OK I might spend a lot more money, but for a few guitars (which you are not going to do again in many many years), it probably costs the same as 15 minutes of someone's time to do the job for you. I also bought the Göldo fret guard with this, but actually feel better using this with a big roll of masking tape.

Really nice tool for the money.

Great 4 sided fret file!!
21.07.2016
This is a great fret file! Less expensive than some of the other brands, but I own them also, and this one is just as effective. Pre cut grooves on the side of the file blade in just the right size and shape for reshaping worn frets. Extremely fine cutting edge on the wide side of the file for dressing the ends of the frets without damaging binding or wood on the edge of your fretboard. May I suggest also getting the 1000 grit Fret dressing rubber for the final finishing of your frets! These two items together, work amazing! You will have the finest smoothest correctly shaped frets in your neighbourhood. They feel like fine glass when you bend your strings over the finished frets! Enjoy!!

Thomann Fret File
Barry R., 13.02.2016
the Thomann Fret File is an essential for any one who wants to give their guitars, basses banjo or any other fretted instrument. it is well made with a solid wooden handle and the design of the file face help to protect it from damaging the face of the fretboard and it leaves the frets smoothly curved

Sharp frets
Stephen6132, 24.07.2014
I got the product just to try it out and see if it would work.
I bought a cheap stratocaster and when I got it the fret ends where a little sharp.
It took me about 10 mins with this file to fix that right up.
Great product and I highly recommend it for that kind of thing. ;)

essential need for guitar d.i.y.
DocN, 19.02.2014
I bought that file together with a fret leveling file and was able to refurbish the frets of my '85 Telecaster - first leveling the frets and afterwards bringing them back to the proper shape for a perfect intonation. Thumbs up!

Great tool
DominikZ, 09.09.2014
Worked great on my Gibson Les Paul Studio for fret crowning after sanding down irregularities introduced by wear and tear and leveling. Very easy to use, takes just a few seconds with adequate pressure. Just make sure to protect the guitar body and fretboard with something because the file is quite large and you might damage the body/neck if you're not extra careful. It also leaves the frets somewhat rough, so they will need additional polishing, as expected.

The file itself seems like it will last for at least a few fretjobs before wearing out. All in all great value and quality.

I never thought that I needed such a thing, but now I have it I use it regularly for those frequent little tweaks around the fret board. An invaluable little tool, especially if you have several guitars (or other fretted instruments). Far superior to those DIY store offerings.
