Inexpensive and effective
27.10.2016
I bought this file thinking that I would buy some cheap option to get started on fretwork and then buy a proper one when I got good at it... Actually, I've done many setups by now and this file is withstanding the test of time with no issues whatsoever

It does the job pretty well and works fine on any Medium to Jumbo frets, and will last for a long time.

Pros:
- Quality file that fits 80 to 90% of frets sizes out there
- I like the cable a lot and find it really comfortable for the task. Considering that you shouldn't get too comfortable while you crown the frets (so you stop and don't file away too much), this provides you with the right amount of comfort.
- Being double-sided, it ensures that the file will really last for a long time
- The file is very long, which means you can cover the whole fret surface while crowning, without hitting the guitar neck with the file's cable

Cons:
Nothing that I can think of...

In sum, I would much rather buy another one of these when this one reaches its end-of-life, than getting a very expensive one that maybe will last for the same amount of time.

Excellent
Briano, 09.12.2014
I bought this file to crown the Stainless Steel frets on the guitar I was working on. I assumed I might get one or two guitars done before the file wore down, but about 10 guitars later I am still using it and there is plenty of guitars left in it. Buyers should know that working with stainless steel frets, will shorten the lifespan of any file but this has served me very well. I only use it after I level the frets , to file the sides of the frets to remove the flat surface. which it does very well. It takes only from the sides of the fretwire which is exactly what you want! If you are working on regular nickel frets this file will last in you toolbox for a long long time. Its double sided which is great... It a good solid build... not to heavy and very comfortable to hold. Highly recommended!

Great!
PlayerV, 18.05.2019
I have been searching for a while a cheap file, that does not destroy your frets. And this file really surprised me. It is quality built and it is a fit for most of the fret sizes. Recommended.

Decent Quality File
RobX, 25.03.2019
A decent quality fret file thats fairly substantial and comfortable in use.Well chosen general purpose grade teeth, cuts fairly quickly but not viciously.
Disadvantage is its only safely usable on wider frets so you will need another brand for most acoustics and many vintage or vintage spec electrics

For JUMBO FRETS!
Wocky, 24.03.2019
Why doesn't anyone say this....
Is't for jumbo frets... you beter not use it for medium frets... it's just to large... so you can't create a curve good enough.. it's just a realy flat curve if you use it for medium frets...

I'm no Luthier but this will be fine for my needs
Mofo, 12.04.2017
I'm not a skilled professional when it comes to this kind of thing but I usually take care of my guitars and bases myself, rather than take them to a shop, so I know what is being done and know it's being done the way i want.

With that in mind i decided to buy some more specialised tools, including this fret file. I was really pleased/surprised to see a Thomann own brand one and snapped it up.

It's a very inexpensive way to give this a try and see if i can get the results I'm after.

I bought a 80's bass on Ebay that had been pretty well played and was in need of a fret dressing. This did the trick! They're not perfect but that may be more my skills (or perhaps they were too far gone already...) but It's made a badly buzzing mess, playable again. I'm really happy!

It was very easy to use, comfortable and durable. I'm sure there are better tools for the job out there but I doubt they'd be at this price point so I'd say it's a 5 star product

Does the job
27.07.2016
I'd levelled the frets on a re-furbished neck, using new stainless steel wire, and (due to the "characteristics" of the old neck) quite a few frets were quite badly flat on their crowns.

Used this file to redo the crowns, and I'm very happy with the results.

I would say that the hard stainless wire I was using is much harder to file than regular nickel wire, so it took a bit of effort, but the file seems to have coped really well and the finished frets look (and play) good.

Good price
14.12.2015
It's a good price for what is as far as I'm concerned a pretty niche tool to own. I used it on a strat project to level off some of the frets and it worked just fine.
The handle is a bit small for my average sized hands, but I suppose that this stops you from being able to apply excess force, so make your own mind up about that. The small handle doesn't make it unusable, but I'd prefer it to be larger.
But enough nit-picking, it's a good quality file at a reasonable price and it got the job done for me.

Fret filing no longer a problem
23.03.2016
I like to be able to do my own maintenance and repairs so I bought this fret file. Its not expensive and I've already used it to rescue two guitars from being almost unplayable, and now theyre fine. I'd recommend buying the fretboard guard too, so you can fine sand with emery paper ( I use 3000 grit to finish off my frets to a lovely smooth shine). Another tool I'd recommend would be a straight edge or fret rocker (a spare credit card will do at a push)

Nice file
Honest Bear, 25.03.2019
This is really nice old school file with comfortable handle. Edges are smooth so you wont ruin your fretboard. Only thing it's missing is another radius on one side. It would be much more useful tool if it had that.

It's a file!
AsPeGiiC, 12.12.2018
It's a good tool. However the tip is closed, and that makes you knock the fret ends when you are filling. Other than that I have no problems with it.

Nice file to crown the frets
Pete-plays-guitar, 02.09.2017
I have used this now on a few guitars and very pleased with the results. After levelling the frets and then crowing using this then moving to 600 & 1000 grade wet and dry sandpaper and then polishing compound I have shiny well rounded frets and no buzzing frets.
If I was doing this for a living then OK I might spend a lot more money, but for a few guitars (which you are not going to do again in many many years), it probably costs the same as 15 minutes of someone's time to do the job for you. I also bought the Göldo fret guard with this, but actually feel better using this with a big roll of masking tape.

Really nice tool for the money.

why oh why didnt i get one sooner
KimH, 01.04.2014
If you've ever re-crowned leveled frets the old fashioned way, you'll wonder why you did'nt get one of these sooner, it really saves time and makes fret crowning MUCH easier.

nice polished edges so dose'nt rough up the fingerboard

Don't ride the file, use a light touch, Let the file do the work.

polish out chatter and tool marks afterwards.

to early to tell on long term quality but is sturdy enough to last a lot of re-crownings.

Good for fettling frets at home
Mr Blue Sky, 26.08.2018
This makes tidying up high frets much easier for the novice - it features a concave curved edge meaning you don't need to shape the fret yourself - instead the file does that for you. A really useful and good value little tool.

Worked for Me
ScottG, 17.04.2017
I'm only starting to learn when it comes to maintaining and working on my guitars. I bought this file for my early experimentation on some cheap, knock-around guitars I have around.

It did the trick on those, but please take in consideration that I'm not an expert on these matters.

If you're looking for an inexpensive tool to start out with, it's absolutely worth the price.

Simple and good
PatrikB, 21.03.2014
This file does the job quickly and easily. It is easy to make even, long, controlled strokes with a nice result.

The straight design makes it a bit more difficult to use higher up on the neck where the body is in the way. There, another method is required, which is less controlled.

It does not show any obvious wear after touch-up of around 10 guitars.

Good for big frets
Roemans, 11.09.2018
The file works perfectly. The only problem is that the grooves are quite deep so the file only works for the bigger frets, if a fret is low you will cut into the fretboard.

Easy to use even for a beginner
21.04.2015
Did my first fret leveling this spring and I was a bit concerned if I´d mess it up. Did some research and decided to buy this tool.

Easy to use, does not harm the fretboard ( if used with common sense and right angle on the edges) and does not grind too much of the metal away at once.

Learned the right technique by watching videos on the subject and had a good first result. Would recommend the product for beginners like me.

Maybe the shape of the handle could be more anatomicly suitable to the hand - other than that I´m pleased with it.

Useful Item
Chronos, 17.08.2014
I have used this on 5 guitars so far, it's doing okay, you just have to be careful with what you're doing. It works well, but I feel there could be a better design out there than this, but for the price its perfectly fine.

Great 4 sided fret file!!
21.07.2016
This is a great fret file! Less expensive than some of the other brands, but I own them also, and this one is just as effective. Pre cut grooves on the side of the file blade in just the right size and shape for reshaping worn frets. Extremely fine cutting edge on the wide side of the file for dressing the ends of the frets without damaging binding or wood on the edge of your fretboard. May I suggest also getting the 1000 grit Fret dressing rubber for the final finishing of your frets! These two items together, work amazing! You will have the finest smoothest correctly shaped frets in your neighbourhood. They feel like fine glass when you bend your strings over the finished frets! Enjoy!!
