I had been using a G7 Performance guitar capo for some years and was waiting anxiously for the mandolin version. I bought one of these as soon as they were available and it's been my mandolin capo for the past five years.
What I like about this capo is that it doesn't put your instrument out of tune when you put it on. Furhtermore it allows you to fine-tune the instrument even after you've hooked it onto the strings. The design also simplifies capo application and removal, very easily done just by using one hand only, and rather quickly.
Feels well built, although I'm always careful not to drop it fearing that the little plastic lever may snap, rendering the capo unusable. The rubber parts are still in perfect condition.
It is heavier than other capos, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, some say this extra weight may even add some sustain, and anyway, when hooked onto the mandolin the weight is barely noticeable.
I do wish G7 had supplied a cloth bag or a small tin case with this capo. That would have minimised the scratches made from other capos, batteries, allen wrenches, and other stuff musicians often keep in their instrument case compartments. Honestly, this is a minor issue. The capo does it's job perfectly and that's what matters.
Ordered and received this item. Described on website as being suitable for instruments with flat fretboards. Would not work properly on either mandolin or bouzouki, both with flat fretboards. Also tried it on mandolin with radiused fretboard and would not work on this either. Disappointing product.
