The home studio working horse, bread and butter audio interface
Hågar, 23.11.2018
I bought this to scale down from and replace my Yamaha N8 eight channel board. After initial problems with pops and dropouts, I got it to work perfectly by setting it to 192kHz recording with a 256 buffer. I use it to do singer / songwriter multitrack recordings of vocals, bass, electric guitar, the output of my stage piano, etc.
The pre amps are not as good as the N8, but... For this price they are absolutely clear! I am very sattisfied with this interface. I owned several others, from Tascam, Yamaha and also the Focusrite 2i2 1st gen. and this 2i4 2nd gen is absolutely pristine compared to those. The MIDI ports are very usable with my hammer action stage piano. I can call any VST synth and play with 5 to 7 miliseconds of latency. Its almost not noticable.

Pros: pristine clean sound with any instrument, ultra low latency, 192kHz, MIDI ports, second set of outputs, very nice LED metering around the input knobs, Great design and looks,

Cons: the supplied USB cable was crap, I replaced it with a very descent certified USB cable. Only will work in 192kHz (no problem for me) Still no 1 or 2 milliseconds latency as promised. The 6.4 ms I get is still very nice.

Overall, weather you are looking for your first audio interface for your home studio, or you are a well seasoned pro looking for an extra set of inputs, you can not go wrong with the Scarlett range. Those who plan to use MIDI should consider the 2i4 or higher, for its integrated MIDI ports. If you have a lot more money to burn and high demands, you might want to go upmarket to RME or other premium brands.

Very good quality/price.
fadelat, 14.05.2019
Given the excellent value for money, I highly recommend this product to those who need an essential and easy to use sound card but don't want to sacrifice the quality of recording. Furthermore, thanks to the supplied Plug-in Suite it is possible to use a series of excellent virtual audio processors such as compressor, gate, equalizer and reverb.

Excellent Linux-friendly interface
JCS84, 24.07.2018
For someone like me who primarily plays guitar and relies on drum plugins, this 2-in/4-out interface is more than enough. The device is very sturdy and seems very durable, and the electronics, jacks, preamps, etc. appear to be high quality.
Latency can be set incredibly low already but it has the option to monitor the inputs directly. My favorite feature however is that all controls (dB padding, phantom power, line/instrument switch) are hardware buttons so it doesn't need any additional software. This means it is extremely Linux friendly, unlike the higher-end models that come with a nice mixer that requires additional, proprietary software available only for Windows and Mac OS X (as of 07/2018). This device is Class Compliant so in Linux it is true plug and play.
At this level and for this amount of money you really can't go wrong with this particular interface.

Great product and no complaints
Nambo, 25.01.2019
The Scarlett has worked exactly as expected and is my main workhorse in my small home recording setup. For my purposes of recording just one vocal mic and an acoustic guitar it works perfectly. No latency issues, very nice build quality and great quality audio coming through. Also have used this as a mobile studio when traveling, and again its does the job exactly as needed.

For anyone looking for a one-stop-shop solution with a multitude of recording and producing options then of course this isn't for you. But for a simple home studio or mobile studio setup you can't go wrong.

My first USB Audio Interface
Mathias Nielsen, 31.01.2018
My 2i4 2nd gen has been working flawlessly for the 1? years I've had it. It's definitely great for the home studio or someone just starting to record music.
I use the 2i4 for my home studio, using the ins for my microphone primarily, sometimes my guitar or bass. I have a keyboard plugged into the MIDI-in for use in my DAW. I also use it for everything else I do on the computer, that is playing games and communications (Skype, Discord, TeamSpeak). On that note, it works flawlessly for the most part. A year ago I had trouble with the compability between Discord and the 2i4, but it was resolved shortly after and never had problems with it again.
If you want to use a lot of midi in/outputs, this is not the choice. I only have 1 MIDI keyboard hooked up to it, and that's all there's space for. It does have a MIDI-out as well, but that's left unused for me.
For everything else, this is such a brilliant audio interface if you don't need to record a lot of instruments at once, and I couldn't recommend it enough!

Amazing interface
trelousis, 02.02.2019
This interface is very easy to use plus there are many tutorials on the web since it's a very mainstream interface so you will be able to start recording very soon even if you are a total beginner.

Sound quality is amazing and in my oppinion you can make really good sounding songs with this, the preamps sound amazing to my ears.

The included pad buttons (that get rid of clipping) are a huge bonus in my oppinion. I found recording guitar and bass very annoying with interfaces without them, having to buy a couple of DI boxes that ended up problematic.

I would totally recomend this interface to anyone at a begginer or intermediate level. If you don't need the extra inputs, this is the best choice in my oppinion

The very best
Bohun, 09.01.2018
I cannot think of any other choice for a home studio. No ground problems, extra-low latency, pure sound, nice and sturdy chassis. Switches for Line/Inst and Stereo/Mono don't make a good impression when touched, but they do their job.
Definitely a good one here.

Works really well, great price/performance, just remember to set your driver type in your DAW to ASIO to eliminate the latency!

Low to medium budget sound card
Ihsahn, 01.09.2017
I sold my focusrite 2i2 for this version so I can have the input pads. I was using the 2i2 with an active pick-up bass and it was clipping. With this version I don't have this issue.
The latency is lower then the previous generation. A drawback is, that it's heavier and larger then the 2i2 counterpart, so if you want to take it with you or to not occupy a lot a space you have to take this is consideration.
Other than that, it has the same good quality of the Focusrite Scarlett family product.

Very good audio interface
Steven S, 14.11.2018
This audio interface includes all the essentials. It is easy to use, does not add noise to the signal and has a slick design. It can accept 2x XLR male or TRS inputs using the same entrance...

I do wish they would have been able to fit in one more headphone jack output (e.g., for the producer to listen and the vocalist to sing), and replace the RCA outputs by another set of TRS outputs. But therefore you need to buy the 6i6.

For this price you won't find anything better...
Jazzyk, 04.08.2017
Or I think so. I use it for record my guitars and basses. Sometimes I use for some virtual instruments like vst from NI or Arturia. Well I haven't heard any latency when I was playing the guitar with some vst plugins like Amplitube or Bias FX, BUT I wasn't happy about the sound. Maybe I made something wrong. I'm kinda new to this sorts of thing. Well I just got the device so I have enough time to test some settings.
I read that a lot of people had problems with drivers on windows, but I had none. I already recorded some tracks using ony vst plugins and I'm really happy with the results. If you want cheap and reliable you should buy it !

Beautiful interface
Tattari, 18.07.2018
The scarlett 2i4 is great. Sounds good. Everything in it works as intended, and has 0 latency monitoring. The gain on it isn't the best for dynamic mics, so you should get a cloud lifter or a fethead if you're pairing it with a dynamic mic. One of my favorite features in it is the knob that switches between inputs and playback seemlessly and it is a breeze. It has enough ins and outs for my personal usage. And for the price i recommend it. Sound quality is top notch. However if you're an audiophile with a high impedance headphones i recommend plugging a separate amp with it for your musical needs.

Great card for start
Peco, 06.03.2018
I use this card with my Krk Rokits 5 and the sound it great!
You can clearly hear the complete spectre of sound (from lows to highs). The card has a great build quality, its easy to install and use. Additional Ableton lite is a plus but if you plan to use something more you should upgrade it. The price of this card is very afordable so my conclusion is definetly a best buy option!

Little interface with many features
Snens, 14.03.2018
I own and use this interface for a bit more than a year and I have to say that it hasn't let me down yet. The preamps are very transparent and the plugins that ship with it are also nice. The midi works well and has paired with a midi keyboard no latency. One of the most usefull things is the direct monitoring feature .
All in all I am more than happy with this interface and the features it provides at such low price point.

Great Audio-Iterface to start!
Polfus, 11.07.2017
Very pleased and satisfied. The combination between this device and the microphones I bought (Shure SM57 and Cascade FatHead II) has revealed itself as a winning one to record my guitar.
Great sound and performance, easy to configure, the only thing I didn't like so much was this lots of softwares and plug ins to download and install... This took me about 30 minutes...

Needless to say, this is the perfect device for the mid level professional who wants also to put down ideas and demos!
