Works well live!

I'd been searching for a while of a practical way of miking a cajon in live situations, and stumbled upon this product.
And at this price point it became especially interesting!

So far I've only tried it on a Sonor Latino Walnut cajon and though I wasn't blown away with the sound, but it was quite easy to get a good sound with a bit of tweaking the EQ and a pair of gates. It still sounds a bit "tinny" and metallic but that might as well be the cajon.
I'd previously tried a Beta91 but the ability to control the bottom end separately from the top end makes it a bit easier to work with.

In the Sonor cajon it actually sounded best when the mic was placed vertical with the condenser mic upwards instead of the horisontal placement I'd seen in the pictures.

However, as with any large wooden boxes with a microphone inside, it has a tendency to pick up A LOT of surrounding noise as well, so placing of the instrument on stage makes a huge difference in the total sound quality. I've had no problems with feedback so far.

Such a useful piece of kit

Having played cajon for some years now I always find the whole mic position thing a pain as it moves about or starts booming as the mic finds its way further into the sound hole. This allows two channels (one for each mic on the device) to separate out and EQ which is perfect. And quick to set up. Yes there are better mics on the market but having the ability to separate out frequencies and get the best sound out of the box is key when playing live. Get one.
