Fantastic value for money bass

Christopher18, 29.09.2017
I've owned this bass for a few years now. Mine has Seymour Duncan designed pickups fitted as standard, not Fender designed pickups. Having previously owned an American Precision from the early 1960's and played many others, I have long been of the opinion that Fender basses in general are overpriced and overrated, so buying one of their budget line products seemed like the way forward for someone only mildly interested in buying a Fender branded bass again but without the ridiculous price tag. What a wonderful thing idle curiosity, middle age and hence perhaps a bit more spare cash in the pocket is that I can take a punt at buying a cheap instrument without worrying about the cost of making a poor choice. This is a cracking instrument at a sensible price. Brand snobs need not apply but if you want a great bass for silly money that sounds like a £1000+ instrument look no further. The maple body gives this bass an open resonance and clarity usually associated with the 4001 (or 4003 for younger viewers!). Finger players don't need to worry about mudiness with this bass, it has more than enough top end bite to cut through the mix. Fender 'thud' seekers might be a bit disappointed here though, this is a lively sounding instrument.
Downsides? Built to a price, somethings got to give! In this case it's not the electrics, they're absolutely fine, it's the tuners and the bridge. You can live with them but spend some money on quality replacements and you'll have a fine instrument that can easily compete with the £1000+ range of basses that you can gig anywhere without anxiety. It really is that good. Well done Squier, liking your work chaps!

A good bass for the start

15.11.2015
For a few years I myself was more than satisfied with this bass and it's sound so it's a good buy for starters.
The sound range is pretty wide - the equalizers give a very good base for manipulating the tone. You can get a punchier sound with the bridge pickup or a more smoother sound with the neck pickup turned higher. You can also turn the tone way down and get a very deep and ''wide'' sounding bass. It sounds nice and has a good punch when played with a pick, but when played with fingers the sound is a bit weak and not very expressive so it lacks the punch in fingerpicking.
It's not the most comfortable for slapping because of the string action. It's probably just individual basses not most of them but mine has a bit hight string action in the middle range frets because the neck is a bit bent and after adjusting the thruss rod it bends again within minutes although the bend doesn't affect the sound just the comfortablility.
The neck is pretty thin and very comfortable and fast. It's a heavy bass itself but it balances perfectly and the neck stays at any prefered angle.
It stays in tune so you can easily go without tuning it for a few days usually.
