Fender Road Worn 50 P-Bass 2TS

Electric BassSome things while getting older get cooler by the day. This is especially true for electric guitars and basses. They over time develop a unique personality, become more attractive and more and more handy. The guitars and basses of the Fender Road Worn series show signs of their past and provide the player with a spectacular "aged" design that brings the spirit of glorious rock 'n' roll times to life again. They simultaneously offer the modern features, playability and excellent quality that one can expect from Fender. Fender classics such as the 50s and 60s, made with production techniques from the world famous Fender custom shop, were the godfathers for the instruments of the Road Worn series.

The original was born in the 50's and shaped the bass sound. The you played a precision, the more sound you got from him. A virtually indestructible bass, which would have laughed and asked for more after every abrasion. At the same time it improved its looks more and more and sounded more comfortable. The new Fender Road Worn 50's precision bass delivers exactly this "aged look" and the "vintage feel". It is built according to the specifications from 1950 and sounds and feels like it is far more older than just a few miles.

Good bass for money
Marc857, 09.02.2014
For some things the Precision sound is very good to use. I have tested the "Matt Freeman", the "American Standard" and now the "Roadworn 50's" and made recordings. When comparing the recordings, I noticed that the "Roadworn" delivers a somewhat special sound that the other two basses do not work. The Matt sounds rather good, dull and characterless. The American hour sounds very clear and precise, but I lack the slightly rough and merciless character of the road. The pound brings them both, but the roadie is more like a V8 and the American hour purrs like a 12-cylinder.

The neck is somewhat rounded to the handleboard, which makes the grasping very pleasant, is a real hand-flatter, the neck. The pickguard has a brushed surface, which I feel as unpleasant. So I replaced it with a Tortoise Pickguard from Celluloid, which is also visually very good, with a 3-tone Sunburst paint, which contains some red, would certainly be even better. The fact that the entire neck is made from one piece and the tint is very beautiful, makes the roadie a real highlight.

Update: In the meantime, I have used my Bassspur with various basses to compare different songs, which we partly recorded in the studio in the 90s, and some of them just new, including the Roadie with different pickups (Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound, Fender Vintage, Bartolini 8 SU and Bartolini 8 CBP) and clearly stated that from all basses (Fender 50s Road Worn Precision Bass, Alembic Persuader, Music Man Stingray, Sandberg California, Warwick Fortress One Passive, Sandberg Bullet TM 5, Spector Euro 5 ) Of the roadie with the original pickups brings the most pleasant sound for me. That means, it is always present, with a lot of warmth, neat pressure in the bass range, where no other bass or pickup could compete, and light tube, without notice.

Almost all other basses fall either by percussive rumble at the eighth or too little foundation. Of course, they also sound very good, everyone has their own character, but I'm looking for a certain sound to accompany a rock band, not for jazz, funk and solos, so the bass is less tarred in the background, but more like in the foreground (Here is the Alembic with EMGX pickups the hammer). I did everything directly, without effects or filters.

So please do not misunderstand, this is just my opinion, which is of course not universal. Everyone feels music and sound individually.

Preci of the better sort.
Ringo Star, 13.03.2018
First, some criticism.
The bass came to me with a flitzebogen neck and had to be stopped first thoroughly. I know that, especially from Mexico basses, different. Probably the bass was stored longer?

After unpacking the bass, a beauty came out. The bass just looks awesome. The interaction, the aging just fits perfectly with the coloring of the bass.

Then came a few Fender Flatwounds 45-100 on it, the neck and the strings were adjusted and then it could start.

The sound is distinctive and rocking in the room. The 50 P has a pithy character and offers some timbres that sound great. The output of the Tonabneher is very high.

You get a typical old school Fender Preci sound and bass that can not be better.

The 50P, along with the Fender RW Flea Jazz Bass, produces two typical Fender sounds that will not make you want to make a new one. (More is just not possible)
It just does not get any better and the prices of these two basses are still moderate, because the sound result is just to kneel!
