In the purest tradition

For all those who associate Fender with electric guitars: Yes, Fender also manufactures acoustic guitars. And it's not a recent development either. Dating back to the 1960s, the American brand has been creating unique and exciting instruments. The CD-60 BK V3 aligns itself with this tradition and another one: Since the early 1980s, Fender has been committed to creating quality instruments that are both suitable and affordable for beginners. The CD-60 BK V3 is a dreadnought style acoustic guitar with a brilliant black lacquer finish - and while its looks will certainly grab attention, its quality is evident, and its price is sensational.

Sturdy and affordable

The CD-60 BK V3 is undeniably a dreadnought, however its body has softer and rounder contours that set it apart from what most other manufacturers offer. Constructed entirely from laminated wood, it features a mahogany back and sides along with a spruce top. The neck is also mahogany, and the fingerboard and bridge are made of walnut, an obvious alternative to protected rosewood. Another noteworthy feature is the neck size, which at 25.3" (643mm) is slightly shorter than usual, which noticeably improves playability.

A forgiving guitar

The CD-60 BK V3 is especially aimed at beginners or anyone wishing to start playing the guitar again. First and foremost, it catches the eye with both its appealing looks and its incredibly low price tag for an instrument of this quality - which appears to belong in a much higher price category. Furthermore, the reduced neck size will suit less experienced guitarists or those accustomed to more "easy-to-handle" electric guitars. The laminated wooden body is comparable in sound to that of a solid wood guitar, and the distinctions reside more in dynamic management, a characteristic which makes the CD-60 more forgiving towards the odd wrong note.

About Fender

Fender is without doubt one of the most legendary guitar and amplifier manufacturers of all time. The company was founded in 1946 by its namesake Leo Fender († 1991), whose innovative ideas brought a breath of fresh air into the musical world. His Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass, and Jazz Bass are not only classics – they also continue to shape the styles of musicians in countless genres to this day. Timeless Fender amplifier models such as the Bassman, Twin, Deluxe, and Princeton also enjoy a stellar reputation. Besides maintaining its classic product portfolio, however, the company is also constantly developing new products that make Fender a driving force in today’s music industry.

An excellent backup instrument

For many aspiring Pop and Rock musicians, nylon-string guitars may seem the very epitome of "uncool", but they are still the easiest way for beginners to take their first steps into the six-string world. Those who have done so will be all the happier to get their hands on a sturdy and great-sounding guitar with a solid-wood top like the Fender CD-60 as their second instrument, which will allow them to start their musical journey in complete comfort.

Solid beginner guitar for a good price!
William Shakeshack 27.01.2023
The Fender CD-60 BK was my first steel-string acoustic that I bought after having only played classical guitar. Not being entirely sure what to purchase, I got this one due to the cheaper price and generally positive reviews.

After 2 years or so, I still play on this regularly and I think it's an excellent dreadnought type of guitar for beginners. The CD-60 looks very slick in black (although it's easy to leave fingerprints) and is very appealing. I always enjoyed the laminated texture although opinions may vary in this regard.

As far as the work goes, this guitar produces a very loud and bright sound. It plays quite well but after having played other steel string guitars, I notice that it's not necessarily the best guitar in terms of handling. However, the lower price tag makes this honestly a very good guitar. I brought this guitar to many places and played outside and inside and it still looks brand new. It is seriously impressive how robust this guitar is.

The biggest downside for me were the strings which came with the guitar. They sounded extremely "tinny" and lacked a brighter sound. I pretty much changed them on the fly with some higher quality ones which made the sound much better.

Overall, I really recommend this guitar for anyone who wants to dabble into playing acoustic steel-string guitars. It is a solid choice and very sturdy as well. It looks great and gets the job done.

A
Fantastic affordable guitar
Anonymous 31.01.2016
This was the recommended guitar from a musician friend of mine. I've just started learning and have no need for cutaways or electronics or any of those other advanced elements. I just needed a basic guitar that was well built, has a low action, stays in tune, and produces good acoustic sound.

Mine was made in Indonesia and looks really nice in the gloss black finish. I decided on the black because of the laminate construction and my preference for satin finishes. Although it may not have exotic materials, it's extremely solid, uses quality components, and is an absolute joy to play. It simply sounds and feels great.

Unfortunately, it doesn't ship with a case nor a strap. However, it does come pre-strung with some Fender coated strings and a truss-rod adjustment tool.

I'm really happy with this guitar. It's everything it needs to be and nothing it doesn't. I totally recommend it for new players and anyone who just needs a basic, affordable daily-player.

N
FENDER BENDER - GREAT SOUND.......
Nick42 21.07.2013
This guitar is a terrific sounder and with the deal including tuner, strap etc is great value for money. Shame it had a few surface scratches on the head but it didn't seem worth the trouble of sending back so I polished them out as best and Im happy. I wore out my first CD60 learning and readily replaced it rather than pay for expensive fret dress and work to the rosewood string holes which had enlarged a bit.

NoelG 05.02.2015
I bough this when I wanted to learn guitar and I didn't want to spend much encase I gave up after a week, 5 years later I own 5 guitars but I still love to pick up my cheap little fender. It has its own distinctive sound and feel which I just love.
I will probably sell other guitar I purchased but I will be keep this one.

So great entry level instrument for those of you who want to try guitar.
