Mini but BIG!!

09.04.2017
Amazing amp, better than the old version.

1st channel (green) : warm and detailed clean sound. If you add an ambience pedal in the loop, you can do everything.

2nd channel (blue) : this is an overdrive / ultra distortion channel. This channel is the perfect match of "blue and red channel" that comes from the old lbx.
Warm OD for rhythm and very loud super distortion for solos.
This is the new blue (2nd) channel.

The first LBX was amazing. The LBX II is more versatile.
100% Rock!

Small bread roll

Castor Pollux, 05.07.2017
Metal Amp with many Gainreserven.
Also suitable for pro gaming and gigs.

I bought the EVH 5150 III LBX II for several reasons.
On the one hand I wanted a tube amp to practice at room level at home, on the other hand I was looking for a backup for the proberaum and gigs.

At home on room volume is unfortunately, also in the 4W mode, not recommended. (Only possible with additional Power Soak)
In the Green Channel, the amp also gives a good sound, but in the Blue Channel, it sounds quietly simply hideous.
The thing is going to be loud!

However, he is a real splendor in the band structure!
The 15W power is completely sufficient to be able to rehearse with the entire band.
The green comes however its limits, because with 15W not so much headroom is there and it catches easy to tug.
The Blue is, on the other hand, the first cream and actually has too many Gainreserven. Although it is called a crunch, it is probably an absolute high gain channel.
I play the gain between 10 and 11 o'clock, which is more than enough to get the amp thick metal sound, in addition, it becomes undifferentiated and muddy.

The operation of the amp is really well solved.
Independent gain and volume controls for the two channels, one on top of the other, save space on the front and make it clear.
Power, standby and power selection are mounted backwards, not exactly an advantage, since you always have to grab behind the amp.
At the rear there is also a rotary knob to adjust the resonance, which gives the amp another pressure.

The processing makes a very solid impression, only the footswitch looks cheap and rickety, but does its service.

A big drawback, however, is a violent crack in channel switching.
This is however volume independent and it goes down with high volumes.

+ Gain reserves
+ Weight / Size
+ Solid processing

+ Performance

- violent cracking at channel switching
- Footswitch (processing)
- quietly no good gain sound
