From the inventor of guitar strings

Strings made by Ernie Ball - the proverbial icing on the cake for a powerful sound with plenty of sustain. Since the early 1960s, the US company has been making strings for almost every stringed instrument. This vast wealth of experience is clearly demonstrated in every product, and it is not by chance that Ernie Ball remains one of the market's leading manufacturers to this day. The product range has expanded immensely over the course of several decades and now includes many accessories such as effect pedals, cables, straps, and high-quality picks alongside the company's extensive selection of strings. However, Ernie Ball's core business is and remains the production of all manner of strings, which set standards in terms of sound, tuning stability, and durability - and the company is still based in Indio, California.

Comfortable to play

The 2214 Mammoth Slinky strings are designed for guitarists who frequently like to play drop tunings and want both a good amount of string tension and clean definition in the low end. The wound strings feature a hexagonal steel core beneath nickel-plated steel windings. The plain strings, on the other hand, are made from a specially hardened and tin-plated high-tensile carbon steel. With gauges of .012, .016, .024, .034, .048, and .062, the 2214 Mammoth Slinky strings offer not only a comfortable playing feel but also a powerful and rich sound, making them particularly suitable for Metal.

Traditionally reliable

Thanks to its long playing life, loud and well-balanced sound, precise intonation, and high tuning stability from the moment the strings are put on, the 2214 Mammoth Slinky string set is particularly recommended as a reliable companion for guitarists who prefer to play drop tunings and who attach great importance to precision and clean definition, especially in the low end. The combined power of over 50 years of experience in string development at Ernie Ball also makes the 2214 Mammoth Slinky strings the first choice for electric guitars - and at a very fair price.

About Ernie Ball

The Ernie Ball company was named after its founder and has its headquarters in San Luis Opisbo, California. Being a guitarist himself, Ernie Ball knew their needs very well. A major problem for him in the 1950s and 1960s was the lack of high-quality guitar and bass strings. In 1962, Ernie Ball invented the “Slinky”, a very flexible and therefore much more comfortable string, which also sounded better and was more durable. He specifically brought individual string gauges onto the market for a young clientele and touring musicians. The company’s success was unstoppable, and today Ernie Ball is the world's largest manufacturer of guitar and bass strings. Over the years, the range has expanded and now includes accessories such as cables, picks, straps, etc. Ernie Ball is also known in connection with the instrument manufacturer Music Man, which the company bought in 1984, but which continues to operate as an independent brand.

From Funk to Metal

The Ernie Ball 2214 Mammoth Slinky string set offers a rich, balanced sound that brings out the best in your electric guitar. The strings' precise intonation means that chords, riffs, and solos will always sound bright and clear anywhere on the fingerboard. In addition, these strings deliver excellent tuning stability as well as a direct tonal response, all of which is especially important for drop tunings. Whether you are playing powerful high-gain riffs, crystal-clear clean parts, or expressive solos, the Ernie Ball 2214 Mammoth Slinky strings offer the perfect balance between playing feel, durability, and a full sound.

Ernie Ball 2214 Mammoth Slinky .012-.062 Strings - Perfect for Deathcore and Low Tunings
blaz.evic 31.05.2023
As a deathcore enthusiast, I recently tried out the Ernie Ball 2214 Mammoth Slinky .012-.062 strings, and I am thrilled with the results. These strings are specifically designed for heavier genres and excel in drop C and lower tunings, making them a top choice for players who enjoy mid-2000s deathcore sounds.

The first thing I noticed about these strings was their excellent playability. The gauge is perfectly suited for the heavy riffing and intricate chugging that deathcore often demands. The tension feels just right, providing a balanced response between tightness and ease of bending. Whether you're shredding through blistering breakdowns or executing lightning-fast tremolo picking, these strings respond beautifully.

One standout feature of the Ernie Ball 2214 Mammoth Slinky strings is their tonal quality. The thicker gauge, combined with the carefully chosen materials, results in a powerful and aggressive sound. The low strings offer exceptional clarity and definition, ensuring that every palm-muted note and chugging riff cuts through the mix with precision and impact. The mid and high frequencies retain their clarity as well, allowing for articulate lead lines and soaring melodies.

Check the nut before buying!
Levenge 17.06.2020
Overall, this set is perfect for low tunings. I used it on my brand new LTD H3-1000 See Thru Purple and found out that the strings did their job perfectly on drop B tuning. It's a bit too big for drop B imo, the strings feel too tight but they do the job perfectly.

But after a few weeks, little by little I started feeling like something was off. After investigating the issue, I realized that the first two low strings (.62 and .44) were too big for the nut and they were standing higher on the fretboard than they should which made it almost impossible to get a proper/stable note when pressing the strings down.

Check your nut before you buy the set and see if they will fit perfectly. They stay in tune but the tension you need to apply on strings might result in shifts in the notes.

TJ
Really great strings for drop tuning
Travis John 25.01.2024
I’ve been using these strings on my Ltd Viper with a 24.75 inch scale length and I’m in love with them. They are great for drop B, drop A#, B Standard and drop A. You could use them for drop C on a 24.75 inch scale but I personally don’t recommend it as the tension is a bit high I’d recommend 12-56 for that.

Standard Ernie ball quality
Mihajlo K 31.01.2022
Classic Ernie ball strings - it's similar to buying a 7string set and throwing the skinny string out.
I am not really a big fan of them apart from very low tuning - and in that case I prefer to use a 7string instead.

Might works well on baritone guitars, but gets a little muddy with lower tuning on standard scale.
