Epi LP Standard Plus Pro: excellent guitar

Fabio992, 17.06.2014
This instrument was made in China. It came in absolutely perfect conditions in the box. The paint job is flawless, there are no dents or marks. The honeyburst finish is warm, and the top is near book- matched. The top binding is a very nice touch.
Fingerboard is very smooth rosewood, frets are well filed and rounded at the edges.
Parts are assembled with tight tolerances.
Playability is excellent. Out of the box, action was a on the high side, but it was easy to adjust.
As a matter of personal preference I will change the 9-42 strings with coated ones, same size.
The nut slots seems a bit deeper than what they should be, as strings are totally embedded in slots. This could be easily corrected.
Tuners have a smooth action, that compensates for the relatively low ratio (1:14). Volume knobs are smoother than tone knobs. All knobs have not been inserted straight on the pot shafts, but this was easily corrected (although shows some less-than-optimal workmanship and controls).
There seems to be no difference in sound between with the single coil or the humbucker coil setting.
The sound is warm and deep, well suited to shaping and distorsion.
This is an excellent buy, which promises to last for years without need for upgrades (unless one fancies to make experiments for the sake of it) to the satisfaction of beginners as well as advanced players - in my opinion.
Owing also three Made in USA Gibson LPs, each of which having a number of defects showing poor workmanship and quality controls (unacceptable for the price and for the brand name), I conclude that in the trade with Epiphone, the latter wins with a large margin. I also conclude that the perennial discussion on the "real Gibson" being better than Epiphone is a sheer waste of time. Gibson should be ashamed to put on the market guitars with obvious defects, and we, customers, should pay for quality and not the name.

Best guitar from Epiphone so far

joao_velez, 08.05.2018
Being a Gibson guitar enthusiast for many years and owning 3 Gibson guitars, including a LP from 1959 I must say that this epiphone is exactly what they say it is: a reallly budget Gibson. Only with really professional ears you'll notice the difference between this guitar and a Gibson LP. The build quality is excellent, the finish is gorgeous (HB) and the electronics are top notch. The probuckers are really good. This is the most versatile guitar I've ever played because of the single coil option and for that reason alone you should buy this guitar. Great sound, sustain for days as LP once said and really great stability and tunning. Definitely worth buying. Hence, Thomann was really great with handling the package, well done.
