High Gain, High Gain and even more High Gain ...

31.01.2016
I have long been the owner of a Mesa Boogie Road King 2 and am looking for a second top, because after years of constant listening, one and the same amp's ears then want to perceive something different. It should be a three- or four-channel amp. After a long search and reading in the Internet and relevant specialist magazines, I decided to use the Invader 2 including the SoundWizard module. After the first check-in without the module, the amp seemed to me rather pale. After installing the module, however, the sun came on. The various switching options on the module make sense and add a clear sound option. Here you can really go on the sound journey and let off steam. Compared to my Road King, the Invader has tons more gain. I really love High Gain, especially when just daddling and practicing, in the recording situation looks quite different. Here, we know that too much gain is not useful at all. This is one of the reasons why the amp goes back: In my opinion, a quarter less gain overall would have improved the amp sound better. He appears to me to be overpowered and he has the tendency to make him equal. Channel 4 has liked me in the High Gain here best. It was more direct and precise than the third channel. The latter always felt a bit spongy, but really only a bit. These are just my personal insights. Compared to the Road King 2 the Invader from the frequency response rather in the upper, lighter registers, without ever sounding shrill or annoying. He solves chords very well. This makes part of real fun. The Road King, however, has looked at the richer tone and, in my opinion, sounds "adult" and "more natural" and always "state of the art". But if you are looking for gain in overflow and want to switch everything via midi and pre-eminently still a very well functioning, parallel effect way, here is quite correct. I also tested with two boxes: the Road King Box and an old Marshallbox with Celestion G12 T 75 Speakern. The Marshallbox has made a lot of fun because it has cut the heights of which the Invader has more than enough, which makes him look a bit fissel compared to the Road King.
So: Good, modern amp with tons of gain. Whoever is looking for it, should try the Invader times, but then the sound module.

A great all-rounder!

05.07.2015
Have the amp since last week after my 25 year old Savage 120 has adopted, and regret the purchase absolutely not.

I play in a classic rock-party cover band, but here and there also a few Metalcore projects. With the Invader 2 no problem. The 4 basic channels, each with the option Lowgain - Highgain and then further refined by the Z 16 Sound Wizard module and can be conveniently stored and called up via the Z9 footboard and MIDI. Overall, it sounds very modern in conjunction with the Engl 412 Pro and has a very powerful midrange spectrum if required.

For this very neatly processed and looks optically class, all in all accustomed ENGL quality! 5 Stars!
