Engl Gigmaster of Puppets

Simas, 29.12.2016
Got this amp for some months now. Been using it for gigs at small clubs mostly (15 Watts being more than enough), used it a couple times in outdoor events on bigger stages.
What i really love on this amp is the sound profile and it's character. Great clean sound (if you are not looking for a big headroom) and an amazing Lead channel (the distortion on this amp sounds so good!!), plus the Mid Boost function is trully awesome, it really helps to shape the sound of the guitar and works wonders cutting through the mix in a band situation.
It is small, compact and seems pretty damm strong built.
I really don't have anything bad to say about this amp, i recommend this for small gigs and studio recording (it has a power soak, nice in studio), as the sound on this little monster will blow your head off.

Little but strong !!

Small amp ENGL rather dedicated to blues / rock, and less high gain than what the brand has been offering us for years.

I had tested a Thunder and a Screamer, and I find that the little gigmaster is better on crunch or rock distortion. Finally, it's subjective, but let's say it delivers a less modern sound than its big brothers. It has a little less gain, by pushing it, you get to the high gain of a thunder about.

The powersoak is awesome, where how to push the amp, while being able to play sound level of a conversation (in 1w), or sound level nikel without annoying neighbors (5w).

And finally a progressive master and super useful (I had the dual statesman just before, and I could not go from a distortion to a crunch sound between the 2 channels, because I had to go up the volume of the clean channel so that it Crunch, and the sound level was too high for apartment use.No worry, I push the input gain, it gives me a clean that crunch nikel, and on the lead channel I have grau, all that With adequate sound volume (in 5w it passes very well).

The clean, as for him, does not remain long. With double pickups, you do not have to set the input gain at more than 11h with the master at 10h to keep a clean sound. In other words, if you mount the master at noon, you will have to lower the input gain, which means that it will be harder to reach high gain on the saturated channel. In short, an amp not dedicated to users really want a clean sound that remains.

The powersoak plays well its role, but certainly it changes the sound. It compresses more when reduced, which is not to displease me, it gives me the impression of having 3 different sounds without changing the knobs (certainly the volume changes radically).

The engl grain is there, as well as precision when you push the gain to the full. It remains super precise, it drops not a hair, each note of a powerchord springs very well, and the palm mute are dry and heavy to wish. Perfect for me.

I recommend it to those who love the engl grain, but who do not want to do high-gain naked metal or even more naughty, who want to be able to have rock / hard rock without sound "modern", but also the blues that sounds Nikel and, of course, who wish to have an amp work at home and / or have neighbors with little patience, powersoak being really useful at this level.

The HP of 10 inches, the same that equips the blackstar HT5 otherwise, not badly reproached some things, for my part it suits me perfectly (It is made according to the site manufacturer of the HP, to provide a modern sound And vintage). Certainly, less bass than a 12 inch, but for domestic use, to the limit so much better (it is the bass of the statesman that sent me the neighbors tapping at my door).

Nothing prevents to connect later a cab sympa for stage or repet, the connections at this level allows.

A blues / rock amp, which can reach a big gain, dedicated to those wanting a amp for domestic use (long live the powersoak), but that will do well in rehearsal and in small concerts.
