I run a 5 string fretless bass through a tuner to the para eq & then to a passive radial JDI DI box and from thence to the desk & if necessary from the DI direct to a monitor amp. This is the first parametric equaliser I have used. The para eq offers more flexibility in terms of sound adjustment than any of the desks and, in my experience, amps without modelling functionality. This follows from the fact that Para eq is, by definition, parametric whereas all the desks etc., I've used have been graphic. It is more difficult and time consuming to set up than a 'bass, middle, treble' graphic - adjustments are driven by the playing space. In conjunction with small changes to playing style (nearer / further to bridge, pickup etc.,) the Para eq enhances the range of sounds on offer. But note that its effects are quite subtle (after all, it is an EQ not an 'effect'). Nice clean sound. Usefull boost function for occasional solo's. Overall a well made, and effective, product. Very happy to have bought this.

Super good and musically sounding!
vitaliistep, 19.03.2018
It's my first experience with Empress Effects and I'm super satisfied!

It's really flexible, extremely powerful, studio quality and musically sounding parametric EQ in the compact pedal format. Specifications speak for themself: frequency response (-3db) - 5Hz to 40kHz, distortion - 0.0063%, noise - -107dB.

I use it for main tone shaping of my electric and bass guitar placing it in the beginning of the chain and it works extremely well. All my guitars and pedals finally sound how I want offering me infinite tonal variations! But you can easily use it for simply anything EQ related and it will get it done!

Clean Boost feature is also useful, especially because you can use it separately without EQ.

Build quality is superb.

I also like that you can set it to True Bypass/Buffered and Independent Boost mode On/Off without opening the case, just by entering to Advanced Configuration mode using stompswitches, really cool!

So if you are in search of good quality EQ, go no further!

Wonderful EQ pedal
19.03.2017
I am an acoustic guitarist and bought the pedal to play out live. I use it in the send/return of my red-eye to give me greater control over the eq. As an acoustic player I was already familiar with how a para eq works so the learning curve was short. I find that the pedal comes into its own once you think you have established a reasonably good sound from your pa/amp. It is great at gigs when you have to notch out low end feedback because the "q" control really allows you to focus in on the offending frequency. And the fact that the frequencies are marked on the pedal is really useful to learning more about eq generally. However, if I was to criticise anything it is that it is difficult to see the writing when on a stage. It complements the red-eye very well and this combination offers a great alternative to my LR Baggs Venue or Radial PZ Pre pedals.

Essential tool for tone-shaping!
David5140, 23.10.2014
I am very glad that I got this pedal. I connect it in my amplifier's effects loop, between the pre-amp and the power amp, and have total control over the tone.

For distorted guitars, I use a 'mid boost' pedal (a Maxon OD808). That tightens the low end and takes away some of the harsh top end. I set my amplifier's tone controls all to the noon position and the signal goes to the 4x10 cabinet with Vintage 30 speakers. The cabinet is a standard (not oversized) type.

So, as one can imagine, there are restrained lows and highs, leaving abundant mids with this set-up. So, what I use this pedal for is to slightly cut some mids at my preferred frequency. I don't cut them out completely because I know they are needed to 'cut through' the mix on recordings and live when playing with other instruments.

I also like the option that you can use a power supply more powerful than 9V like e.g. 18V for more headroom. I will definitely try that as soon as possible.

I tried the boost function, too, although I don't use it. But it does it's function.

Overall very satisfied with this product.

EQ is perhaps the least noticed of all types of audio processing, but also the most important.
