No other strings ...
Sven014, 15.01.2011
... have cost me more euros than this sentence Elixir. The corresponding high was my expectation. So far were mostly ghs-boomer (about 20, -EUR / set) on my Warwick-Streamer. Until now, they had been halfway through for two months, sounding sound-dead, a month later. (Approx. 10 hours use / week - usually every string is flat)
So, boomers down, parcels on and Elixir draufzogenzogen. The Warwick-Black-Label, which has been ordered, will come to the side.

In the case of the A-string, slight damage in the pick-up area on the coating was noticeable. Looks like peeling skin. That's why I am only satisfied with the processing. I wanted to send the strings right back. Because of the price, I was a bit stressed. But I already had two strings on it and my curiosity was hard to beat.

Already when tuning is clear, these strings are different. When tuned to tone, these strings wait with an unexpected O-tone spectrum, which I would like to describe as almost pleasantly balanced and bell-clean intoning to the played tone. Strikingly, the otherwise usual, and in the usual case, quickly losing, sharp brilliance of freshly wound strings is missing. The elixirs sound like right from the start and that makes for studio recordings particularly well :-)

Above all, they sound like that for a long time. In the first three months, I wondered if these strings are aging at all. But they do. Even though tolerably slow.

These strings just feel good when playing. Noises when moving the fingers, long precise slides due to low "restraint forces". You just want to play fast. The initial lateral slipping off the string, which is really extremely smooth, to whom it happens, but that settles very quickly. Otherwise, bendings with these strings just sound cool. It could be concluded that these strings allow for a significant improvement in the playing technique.

The general sound of the strings, played from bottom to top, is without gaps in the O-tone and without fluctuations in the enforcement force, which of course will also depend on the instrument. At least this string really brings out everything from the body. To my taste sounds the sound in the direction of bridge pickup and well-drawn just funky and thrilled the band as well as the bassist. The punch comes crisp and the slapps sound "latte".
Dynamic playing with these strings is just fun because the presence and tone of the played sound leaves nothing to be desired in any phase. In my opinion this is definitely the balanced sound of this string, no matter what amplitude. This also makes these strings very swingtable.

Durability: first wishes in the direction of fresh strings came with me actually only in the sixth month of use. And now in the seventh month it was time. Now the Elixir were also at the end, as if switched off. Sharp, so to say. Now, of course, I have fresh strings on it, you know, the Warwick Black label. I thought, if my bass and the strings are of the same manufacturer, what should go wrong? I'll tell you right away. I want fresh strings! Immediately. Because suddenly my bass has a playability, which is most closely associated with the grip of a roughing file.
So I have just right here and now two sets of Elixir ordered. That's enough for a while :-)

In sum, I can only recommend these strings. With my originally 4-6x Boomers in the year are also around 80-120 euro. The opposite 2-3x a year these elixirs. Where these two sentences in average use simply sound at least 4 months longer better. The talk here is really of average use. Anyone who needs to change more often will be able to test and compare. Because strings are changed only for the same reason, they no longer sound.

The praises of the playability and durability of these strings are anything but from the air. And the resulting price-performance ratio can definitely be seen.
No other strings ............. first come to my bass! A better string in this price segment would still have to be found and then offer much more. But what?

The Elixir brand does not make any compromise with the quality of its products, there are no other strings that last longer and besides conserving the original tone that you hear when putting the new strings for the first time!
