A lot of fun for the money
03.03.2015
An excellent little box of fun toys for the beginner guitarist or bedroom strummer. Many features for little money - amp sims, plenty of cool and useful effects, a tuner, a drum machine & metronome, a headphone amp. My daughter is having loads of fun experimenting with all the different sounds & settings (and after all, when learning electric guitar, the tone, amp model & fx chain is a critical & fun part of the learning process).

It works well as a regular stomp box connected to a guitar amp, or as an amp simulator plugged directly into a computer (via the appropriate audio cable) or a PA. You can also plug headphones directly into the output socket, which was an unexpected little bonus. However, I personally think the RP-55 sounds MUCH better through a real guitar amp than headphones.

Top tip - if the RP-55 sounds unpleasantly "fizzy" through headphones, try activating the speaker simulation by pressing the DRUMS button while powering the unit on. This will give a much more realistic tone through headphones without any horrible fizz.

The factory presets are mostly "fun but useless". I recommend reading the manual and learning how to program the unit. There are 40 user presets, and programming is simple but fiddly via the 4 push buttons.

Build quality: this device is NOT designed for professional use on stage. The plastic construction and fragile buttons make it better suited to the bedroom or home studio. (We found that the DRUMS button was sticking on, due to it snagging on the plastic bezel. Easily fixed, but an example of the 'basic' build quality)

A final bonus - I do like the fact it runs for many hours on 6 standard AA batteries (instead of the more expensive 9V PP3 type more commonly found in FX pedals).

Overall, a highly recommended introduction to the world of digital guitar FX for very little money.

You should give it a try

I was in a search for a new amplifier, and when I decidet to buy Fender Champion 100, I thought, that for lower price difference from competition I can bought this multieffect. I bought it mostly to use reverb and drum machine for practice. After I have played with it for a few days, I can say that it is great pedal for beginers, with decent sounds and lot of effects. Build quality is very good, and great thing is that you have 4 year warranty if you register it on official store. I would highly recommend it.

The multi-FX concept has been around in various forms since the mid 80s - It is therefore no surprise that there is a huge range of hardware available.
