JO
Missed Opportunity
Johnny Oat 14.06.2020
This overdrive is now almost 4 years old and at a third of its original price is now something of a bargain. It is well constructed (made in China) with an attractive polished chrome finish and is to the most part well designed and versatile. It has some useful extra controls to help match it to different guitars and tonal requirements. Two internal DIP switches can be set to adjust the input impedance of the pedal if required, although the manual does not fully explore these options.
Apart from Level and Gain controls, extras include an Input Filter to set the tone of your guitar’s incoming signal. Also (combined in a dual-concentric knob) is a Bass Cut (pre-gain) control to determine the amount of low-end to be driven, with a Treble (post-gain) control to brighten the sound. A good starting point here is to align the Bass Cut with the Treble to maintain a balanced sound – thereafter you can tweak to personal preference. I found the Bass Cut placed fully clockwise introduced noise into the circuit.
A central micro-switch selects either “Low” mode, which operates well as a boost or for a low-gain range common in transparent overdrive pedals. When switched to “High” it becomes a mid-gain overdrive and in this mode with the Gain knob up, it needs some tempering with the Level control, as it can emit some unwelcome re-biasing noise.
The missed opportunity with this pedal is in its ergonomics. If the Level and Gain controls were also on dual-concentric knobs (pots), they could be set independently for Low and High modes. If the Low and High micro switch were on a foot-switch (integrated or remote), this would make it pedal-board friendly for live use. In use this switch is a bit fiddly to operate, but the knob sizes are otherwise well proportioned and tactile.
As a standalone boutique pedal, it represents good value. I am not sure how well this pedal works with other overdrives, but on its own is covers most of the sonic options in the Blues to Vintage Rock fields. There are some noise issues, but these can easily be minimised.

Great Low Gain Drive
Anonymous 17.06.2016
Great pedal:
Sounds wise is brilliant at low gain.
On the high gain mode its not earth crushing but plenty gain for rock and blues

I use this for 2 applications
I glassy clean tone on low gain with mild break up, and 2 to drive my amps lead channel a bit harder

The looks on this pedal are awesome the nicest looking pedal i have ever seen let alone owned

Build quality is high as well, i have the boneshaker in this range too and both pedals are great quality and superb at what they do

I have marked feature down a little because the gain is limited but really its not meant to be high gain and its very versatile from clean to rock sounds

Great pedal, love it, so versatile, the only mid gain pedal i have played on the same level is the Walrus Mayflower, but the LookingGlass is cheaper has an exceptional eq and gain voicings the can prize any sound other than hi gain metal, the DOD sounds so valvey, and whilst the Mayflower is a stunning drive sound, its far more limited, the DOD has close 4times the available tones and matches quality across the board . I can say with confidence it wont dissappoint, the best OD overall in pedal form and Metal heads , it wont be your core hi gain tone but its much better than any TS/808 pedal for boosting drive chanel , eq gives somuch ability for boosting, TS fot boost ? yawn no chance keep that green insult away from my board I have something much better thanks

Amazing!
Guiri MacGringo Del Colorado 12.03.2019
This pedal is very versatile and just about every setting on it sounds great. The input filter is very handy too, it makes it take less time to re-find "sweet spots" in the pedals settings, when plugging in different guitars.

Used as an overdrive or even; a distortion pedal, this thing is warm and organic sounding with very present high mids, crystal, but not brittle, clear highs.

Used as an ampinabox pedal at the start of the signal chain it has a natural amp-like character that interacts with your guitars volume and the way you play, you can get a tasty bite and snarl when you dig in, a present chimey sound when playing softly, turn up the gain a bit and it cleans up amazingly with the guitar volume control.

Build quality seems excellent so far.

Very versatile
YannisK 09.10.2019
I got this in order to move away from my amp's (Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) not so good drive channel and I can say that I am very satisfied so far.

I was looking for something that didn't sound like a typical mid-scooped TS and this fills that role. There is plenty of sonic range to be had with the unconventional controls, although I have to play with it some more in order to find my ideal tone.
