This is more or less the industrial-standard J74 but with a coating to extend the life of the strings. String gauge is on the heavier side with 0.11-0.40 (great for those bluegrass chops) and the strings has the typical loop-ends. The coating is really worth the extra cost. Having been a heavy user of J74:s for a long time I tried both the slightly more expensive Elixir Nanoweb's and the EXP74's but eventually settled for the EXP74 as the elixir's sort of flaked off some metallic flakes after a month or so? The EXP74 keeps the tone longer than uncoated strings and they really holds up to long and heavy use and abuse. Highly recommended!
Best strings yet. Coated strings but not "coated sound"
I've been playing for 10 years and I've tried most known brands. Coated strings are good to avoid string noise when changing positions and they do last longer than their non-coated counterparts, but this does not really justify the price difference of up to a factor 2. Elixirs sound notouriously different and lack tone and richness (they sound a bit like electric strings, IMHO) whereas these sound as warm as any non coated string. I'm finally satified, these are worth every penny + they're cheaper than elixirs!.
