Not as good as other reviews.

Played on the cornet for 4 hours and came to the conclusion it wasn't for me. It's very good for a beginner and intermediate player but it didn't flow for me and the sound was like a trumpet. Popped my mouthpiece in and started with some carol work and it played very nice but the sound was very strident with my own mouthpiece. Popped in few different mouthpieces and the sound did mellow a bit more but I couldn't change deom my favourite mouthpiece.
I then went on to do some fast paced technical playing and exercises and felt there were gaps and stops to the flow of what I was playing, so got my Besson and thrashed through it just to check and all was well on my sovereign.
Next I went on to play some solos which sounded fine but I also like to play in the upper register as we don't often have a soprano cornet in band. This did not bode well with myself, it's very ugly above top C proving difficult do land a pitch on any notes from top D to a top G.
I very much listen to my intonation and something sounded slightly off so out comes the magic tuner and started some notes and watching the tuner and it was difficult to land quite a few notes in tune, just to check I brought out the sovereign again and there was apart from one or two notes everything was tuning nice.
The Achilles heel of my sovereign is I have trouble hitting a clean Top A but the carol brass made this feel very easy to do so carrying on around A major with some scales and arpeggios etc all felt quite easy to play and I was happy about that.
In a brass band I would have to place this instrument to a repiano cornet down to a 3rd cornet players instrument. Perhaps I was expecting too much from this cornet?
It's certainly not a bad cornet it's built very well and the valves are probably slightly better than my besson and I felt at home with them. I really down want to make this sound a negative review as this cornet does have its place in the band. Maybe I should have tried a different carol model like the 6880 or tried a new Besson so honestly this is how I found it folks it's good but my 21 year old Besson 928 GS does it better and will feel content that I have discovered carol brass and satisfied my curiousness about them it was a shame it just didn't work out as it also really looks the part as it reminds me of my old imperial frosting on the bell, but the proof is in the playing. It's not over though maybe I will try another one in the future. Thanks.

Just OK

Seen alot of good feedback about this horn from different forum and decided to go with it.

The build of the cornet is fantastic, very beautiful and the quality is top class.

I did not quite like the sound i was getting even with a Denis Wick 3B. The horn sounded very trumpet-like, and not cornet-like. I then got a Curry 3BBC and the instrument sounded alot better. However, still not quite the tonal quality i wanted as compared to other cornets i tried before.

Features are good but there are some intonation problems here and there.

For this price and quality, i must still say it is a very good buy.
