Good Product - Bad Frets

18.04.2015
Arrived within three days as a B-Stock product and the sound was fantastic, action great and playability good.

Frets were another matter. Top of fretboard wasn't bad, bottom was awful. Harsh on the fingers.

Thomann offered a replacement from stock. Excellent customer service.

New guitar had great fretboard.

These are excellent value for money, and offer a strat type sound and playability but with a wider tone.

The hammer - I am thrilled

TheWhistler, 02.04.2014
My starting condition: backup / extension for my Japan Strat (Bj. 89). Requirement fully met + some great extras that were not planned at all.

I'm excited !!!

Features:

The neck has a 648 mm scale (not as in the product description 628 mm !!!) thus analogous to Fender. It is very cool that the headstock is "angled", so it is angled backwards, so that no string trees are required, improves the tuning stability The neck is a bit wider than a standard fender neck (pleasant for larger hands) and nice 60ies flat, but not too thin Well dressed and there are no sharp edges (good Fretjob).

The body is made of good swinging wood and resonates noticeably with. The guitar is minimal heavier than my strat, I have played it during standing for 3 hours while standing - no problem.

The PUs: Blades clearly after single-coil, but different than a Strat. Since I still have to experiment and do not find immediately an equivalent to my other favorite position "Bluessound" at the neck-PU. They have a lot of power, but not like hi-gain humbucker. There is always high altitude and ringing in the sound and also not at all compressed, but very dynamic. Most likely as P90 but it does not really come. The circuit is great, because the neck-PU can be switched over by a push-pull potentiometer.
Since you have eg the Tele-Sound times when you connect the neck and bridge. Even all three go together, that is already pressing properly. So soundly suitable for everything, for which one would take a Strat + a few great additional options.

The hardware: The Tremolo is one of the kind of knife edge and works great. In the case of floating (Gilmour-like) no coarser detuning, no hooking of screws, as with 6-point Fender Trems. The tremolo arm is screwed - clamping would have been better, but well. The mechanics are the only real criticism in the furnishing. There is some play while moving the swirls and they do not make the same high-quality impression as the rest of the hardware. If nothing is wrong, I immediately exchanged Kluson-Locking 6L (33, - in house T). Thus guitar is voice-stable (enthusiasm).

Interesting also the zero federation. I had not yet, but prevents intonation problems in the lower layers - is true and also works. The only point here is that notches have now formed in the zero-band, in which the strings lie, which snips at Bendings in the lower layers a bit back and forth. It does not affect the sound of the amp or the tuning.

The processing is not quite immaculate. There is a small paint defect on the ceiling (but you can only see from one direction and you have to look closely) and a small uncleanliness at the groove. No matter, that's just cosmetics. Wherever it is relevant the standard is high (eg the saddle, perfectly notched). The potentiators are easy to handle and provide their service without any problems.

The criticism that is isolated on the internet in relation to the push-pull pot is read - not good to use, since one slips off - is entitled. I have solved it for the time being, that I have the very tightly seated on the potentiometer sitting knob not completely down. This results in a gap to the pickguard, so that the pot can be raised easily and immediately.

Compared to a 130, - expensive Fender Squire Deluxe, the pendulum is clearly attached to the Burns Cobra. If the small processing errors would not be the guitar gladly also around the 500 - 700 cost. If you consider the overall quality, the very own and good PUs and the really cool design, it is for 269, - a mega bargain.
