Good cut (Katana, Japanese for sword)

Chris the guitar, 10.04.2018
BOSS 'Katana lineup has shaken up the market for low-cost transistor amps since it was released, delivering sound sound for a small budget.

The youngest member of this series, the artist, with its 100% markup price compared to the 100 model, priced something of the kind. Positive:

I bought the artist because I heard of the good basic sounds of the Katana series and saw. With 100 watts of power, it is also gig capable at any time.

The artist impresses with its enormous performance reserves and the rather simulated simplicity in its operation.

No question marks raise the few knobs that are finally readable without any distortions from the front (in the 50s, 100s and 100-212s Katanas these were still attached at the top back). However, this is an extremely versatile modeling amp with more than 50 BOSS effects, which can be adjusted via a free software extremely sensitive. Taking these possibilities to scale, then the regulator landscape at the amp is low-pile, (which calms down).

My trip to the app, however, has resulted in a reset to factory condition, because I have handled unpleasant noise in the overtones, which were not to get away ... Then everything was back paletti :-)

What distinguishes the expensive in comparison to the other Katanas Artist-Amp is its 12 inch speaker, for example, in clean mode even the highest level peaks can handle complaint and distortion-free, if you wish. Mostly the artist will probably be heard in higher gain ranges, that's also clear to me. But a clean base makes a huge difference to the distortion in the sound, which can only be attributed to overstraining individual components.

Unfortunately, the built-in tilting stand of the 100er models is missing at the Artist. The workmanship is good. The Tolex looks valent with its slightly coarser grain. Unfortunately, the side panels of the amp are for cost reasons without the laborious Tolex clothing, which looks cheap. Visually, it does not come close to most of the amplifiers in this price range, which is why I immediately replaced the knobs with metal knobs (Thomann Harley Benton Parts T-Style Knob Chrome). This investment has paid off visually.

Important: Be sure to order the footswitch BOSS GA-FC - the LEDs on the amp are very dark, only on the footswitch you can see exactly which of the -> 8 channels you have just activated.

My conclusion: At 99% you get everything delivered with the Katana 100, which makes a Katana. If money does not matter and you are looking for the really good sound of the new WAZA speaker, then it must be the artist. If you treat yourself with something else for the look, then it comes to my desired amp already pretty close ran.

I will not excite the possible volume - for health reasons.

The best of its range

Patrick S. 710, 26.08.2018
This amp is probably the best we can do in modeling.
His extraordinary speaker and cabinet makes the best of what a digital amp can offer.
Be careful however, do not believe (like me) that you will get the best from your home. You have to give him space and let him express himself at least at 50W so that he offers his dynamics and his resonance.
It will give you nothing more than a standard Katana (besides better defined sounds) at 0.5W and so it brings me nothing more, playing at home.
This amp is made for studios and the stage, not for the house.
I return with great regret in view of its extraordinary performance and features.
If you plan to use it in a group, in the studio, in open space most of the time, go for it will not disappoint you.
In addition, it is "beautiful" and very well made.
Thanks to Thomann for his understanding and impeccable service. You are the best.
