Bogner 212C Closed Back 2x12 Speaker Cabinet

Tim607, 09.10.2013
Ok, so lets be honest who really knows who makes the best speaker cabs on the planet? Well let me tell you. Marshall cabs used to be good but since they have moved from the UK to China for production they are now not very good at all. This is a real shame as Marshall being one of the greatest and most iconic rock n roll pieces of gear has now let itself and name down. It seems in the Western World that there are American and Canadian companies such as Bogner, Friedman, Wizard, Cameron etc making far superior Marshall amps than the British.

Now Reinhold Bogner has been making and producing guitar amps for well over 20 years and is one of the big boys when it comes to handmade custom built amplification. Used by artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Steve Lukather and many many others. His attention to detail and sound makes his amps the forerunner in boutique amplification alongside Friedman & Wizard.

This Bogner 212C is a closed back 2x12 speaker cabinet loaded with Celestion Vintage 30 seakers. It is made so well that the sound is tight and focused and the bass response is not overbearing and keeps the notes attack and feel. The chewy mid range of the 212C really helps to hear the difference between amps and the top end definition makes using different guitars extremely audible and transparent. You can actually hear the difference with every guitar. Its a powerful cab and onstage it spreads the sound nice. Enough ummff for the metal heads, enough chang for the rock dudes and the perfect catchouuuuuu for the pop / jazzers!

All in all this is probably the best 2x12 speaker cab on the market!!!!!

Lots of sound at the boutique price

Patrice aus H., 19.03.2014
With Bogner, another company from the American market joins Thomann's high-end segment. The Bogner 2x12 has to do with a box, which is nothing for the small purse. Even the already expensive Mesa 2x12-Boxes are still almost 100 Euro cheaper. Does the box promise what the price promises? Let us find it.

Since there are only a few boxes that are at the same price level and a copy of the AB comparison in our program, I will refer to the highly commented Mesa 2x12 as a reference model.

Sound: First and most important point. And here I can say: An absolute highlight! I myself use the box with a Mesa Boogie Mark IV and have played all forms of rock, hardrock and metal. The box serves all these fields wonderfully. Incredibly round, crisp and clear sound without unpleasant frequencies. I would also like to focus on the reproduction of Cleans - a dream - I have not heard of any other comparable box, which is so beautifully warm! Guitarists of all styles can be found here who are able to enjoy the sound of the popular Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
Compared to the Mesa 2x12, the Bogner is much more transparent and more focused in the sound. This could mainly be due to the fact that the entire frequency spectrum moves in the middle. In particular, the construction method should play an important role. The Mesa is deeper and more massive built, which gives her more "boom", but for me places too thick is applied and undefined. We are talking about tendencies here - neither of the two boxes sounds bad. But in this price segment you can already allow yourself a little more accurate listening.
Another comment on the topic of construction: many 2x12 boxes have in contrast to their "slanted" 4x12 siblings problems, the sound in the band context with the guitarist arriving, which is simply due to the fact that the speakers radiate straight forward and the box Is less high, unless it is stacked on crates and sets angles. Not so in the case of this box. The slightly bevelled front helps the Celestion Vintage 30s sound more evenly throughout the room. In my opinion, a very thought-out design.

Optics: The photos, which can be seen here, should speak for themselves. The front comes in a rather vintage-looking Gray-Weave, which I personally personally very appealing. When looking closely, this also looks very high-quality and noble, with a light golden shining impact. This also applies to the golden glimmer of the handle attachment. The Tolex is a real eye-catcher, which with its incorporated patterns definitely stands out against the usually simple competition. Then one actually realizes in which price dimensions one moves here. I'm still excited when I look at the Bogner - and it's a BOX of which we are talking here.

Workmanship / Practicability: So far, I have not tried to move the Bogner 2x12 great or to put them under a bat with the baseball bat. The fact is - it seems to be built like a tank, I do not think you should be disappointed. The extent to which the bevelled design of the front could influence durability will have to be shown. In terms of size, this is a box that is almost the size of a 4x12. This is also reflected in the weight, which is not exactly low with 39 kg. Compactness and transportability have therefore been less the focus here. The Bogner speaks with its dimensions probably the most likely Studiomusiker and sound fetishists who are willing, the back pain for the sound to bear or the box simply does not move. Should it be the case, however, it offers 3 well-processed handles, which facilitate the transport, which Mesa did not even at a price of more than 800 euros with their massive, still 28 kilos heavy 2x12 boxes. The detachable rollers - my only reason for a star print - look rather rather small compared to the above and not very suitable for the wheel, as Mesa definitely has the nose ahead.

Conclusion: The Bogner is a real heavyweight both in price and sound engineering. Here in the high-top segment a box is offered, which could not be more versatile and noble. Whoever is willing to reach deep into the pocket will make an investment for life and for any form of guitarist demand. The same applies: to compare and compare, everyone has a different idea of ??the "perfect sound". I found him. Clear purchase recommendation from a sound fetishist at the end of his long search!
