Top processing - top optics - great equipment - but not my sound.

Chris-to-fair, 21.10.2016
Hey together,

I was just looking for an overdrive pedal that

- rocky / powerful sounds

- in combination with my amp NATURELS KLINGT

- the upper medium gain to HiGain range

- the "Zerr-work" completely takes over itself (before clean Amp)

- no scooped Mids produced

- mainly strat application (partly with hot bar single coil or, in exceptional cases, bridge mini-humbucker.)

For this it would have been for me also a conceivable solution,
If a low-to-medium gain pedal provided a good basis for further boosting.

This does not always have to be top, but results in some cases better results than "ONE finished HiGain pedal".

Among my choices were the Egnater Goldsmith and the B-502 Empire Overdrive.

I know: Both not just for the HiGain sector. Both but with boost options.
In addition, I have other external boosts in the form of clean, dirt and OD boost pedals at the start or on the board.

Very similar to the possibilities.
Both with boost capability (in front of and behind the main breaker)

But can only say say:
The Empire OD is not my thing.

No matter whether over
-Fender Blues Deluxe 1x12 ", 40Watt Combo or
-VHT Special 6 Head (works tubes better replaced) or
- a 15Watt Vox combo from the 80s ...

The Empire always sounded too slow, slow, dark. It is not that he has no heights.
But he does not come to me somehow "in the Puschen".
Perhaps the high ...

He has quite a well-groomed crunchy speech.

No mud, no bubbling.

Speaking of the Zerre does not sound unusual for me. Rather unspectacular.
Similar to chip-like, like Tubescreamer and many others (which absolutely must not be bad.)
I do not know what / who is really torn to work.

No striking trim toward American 6L6 softness, no dumbl-osity adjustments, no "power-stage-tore" simulation, no Vox center, no striking marshallesquer British crunch.

The equipment with xtra buffer offers some top possibilities. Can be switched off and on. 0dB or signal boost or true bypass.

But I suppose it's the kind of mid-tuning and the overtone behaviors that make it sound gray and boring for me.

The 15Watt Vox also hanged for testing purposes to large 2x12er box (Marshall-type, finger-toothed 15mm birch multiplex, G12H30 55HZ). Brilliant Input or Normal. No matter. Both bridged. Also no matter.
The VHT via Fender 1x12 "-case (Jensen Speaker), and also over Celestion G12H.

Always with the same result.

Conclusion: Empire works in the low to medium range.

But for screwing in a low to medium gain sound, I would prefer other treads.

I'm sure there's the AM or the AM (s) with which the Empire sounds good.
And the guitarist / the guitar.

But with me, this trefoil does not falter.

The more so, the Egnater Goldsmith was a POSITIVE MEGA surprise for me !!! :) Yeah. This elsewhere and differently more. GOLDSMITH MUST BE TESTED :)
