A little miracle under the interface sky

FireShades, 13.11.2012

I bought the model "Xenyx 302 USB" from the brand Behringer eigtl. Only as, say "emergency / backup interface", because I needed as quickly as possible a new one and not just good at checkout - was however very surprised by this.

I have eigtl expected the worst, among other things because of the not so rosy reputation of the manufacturer, but also because of the really extremely favorable price, which is definitely unbeatable. Because of the 15V instead of 48V phantom power I was also worried that this might lead to problems with my large diaphragm. So the purchase involved several risks for me, but I dared to try and gave the device a chance. But now to the real meaning of this writing:

The device comes in a nice packaging, well protected (I speak not of the Thomann own outer packaging, which is also perfect, but from the manufacturer) therefore. It is also supplied with a USB adapter (Euro plug) for eg the external insert etc., also a manual and of course the required USB cable (3m) is supplied, which in my opinion should be sufficient for the normal use, in the length completely. If this is not the case, you can still have an extension.

The processing of the device (plastic housing) is very good, the potentiators sit tight, so far in no way scrape, the numerous RCA (RCA) inputs / outputs sit as they should, just like the rest (XLR / jack) Combo jack, etc.), everything TOP processed, since one can not complain, at least I find regarding the processing no reason for it. It is a pity that Behringer has not given the "Xenyx 302 USB" a "real" on / off switch, so you have to disconnect the USB cable always, if the device does not want to feed permanently, but half is wild.

Now to the sound (16 bit / 48 kHz): Wow! That this device is so low noise, I would have seriously not expected, mainly because of the price. Only from 60% / 13 clock regulator setting comes to an easily audible noise, this position should be loose enough, so I would say, it is also enough to leave the setting to 40-50% / 11-12 clock. The latency values ??of 320 samples (ASIO4ALL v.2) are also better than I thought, under these runs the interface without murmur, at least with me (i7-3770K, 8GB RAM, Windows 8 64 Bit). Under 320 samples, however, it should not be used, since this is because of the undesirable "side effects".

The sound is clean or otherwise expressed: Amazing, the more amazing for this price class!

My great diaphragm, which eigtl. The same applies to the regular output.

A USB 1.1 port was installed, so this interface can also be used on older computers, this is definitely an advantage. Personally, I would have liked a USB 2.0 port, but because of the possibility of lower latency, but for the price this is quite painful. On USB 3.0, we will probably have to wait a while for interfaces, anyway, since currently just at least with these devices on USB 2.0 is converted.

In view of the extremely favorable price, the very good sound (price-performance ratio!) Attention: My "star" rating refers to the consideration of the price / performance ratio of this product and not compared to products of the 100 EUR upwards class, because this would not be meaningful, let alone fair.
