For the price, the guitar likes to please

18.05.2015
When testing in a local shop, I was hanging on guitars of a Canadian manufacturer. The playability due to the wider saddle and shorter scale as well as the sound appealed to me immediately. I liked the idea of ??a wider saddle immediately, because I always buzzing on side pages - which is particularly unpleasant in the Picking Style.
Price was that guitar still OK, but also not quite cheap.

After some research, I have found that Baton Rouge with the L6 a replica to offer - however, different types of wood are used than with the original. I still "risked" and ordered from Thomann, since it was not available in the area - I need to stop I have thought back.

Praise to Thomann, ordered on Father's Day on Thursdays and delivered on Saturday already.

So quickly unpacked and the guitar times under the magnifying glass:

1. Optics
Processing is clean, no crevices, no sharp edges. Only in the finish two small defects on the ceiling: Slight glue residues at the bridge as well as a slight defect on the ceiling elsewhere. But you have to be aware of this, to discover it.

2. Equipment and technology:
The GURTPIN is attached to the neck but has to be drilled and fixed. A note where the screw should / should not exist was unfortunately not. Since I play without belt I have made here first still ncihts.

The guitar is NOT included. This can be ordered and assembled separately. The simple Harley Benton pickguard here from Thomann has the right radius if one places it easily under the sound hole decoration.

The SATTEL is 46mm wide, 3mm wider than most Western guitars. This gives a little more space in the strings. I first had to worry about the new guitar "too short" and to create buzzing on underlying strings. So far, I have however between my standard 43mm guitars and this changed back and forth and no conversion problems had. Nevertheless, I have the feeling less frequently than before inadvertently touching a secondary string during picking. So I would have reached my first goal.

The MENSUR is slightly shorter than normal with 63cm. This makes the 1st collar 1mm smaller than my Fender CD60 (64.5cm scale). I did not find any "space problems" in higher frets. With the supplied strings (I guess 0.12) the tension is also high enough, so I do not have to worry about Drop D or Open D tunings.

The neck is less than 2cm thick. I found this pleasant and it compensated a bit wider the wider fingerboard. Handles like a D / F # (thumb grips F # and damping additional 5th string) are possible, although somewhat more difficult than normal.

The STRING is with 3mm at the 12th fret still OK, with my Fender at that time however better adjusted (2.5mm). Since I will at the first change of the string at the footbridge still something file down.

3. SOUND
Now I have for my direct comparison only my Fender CD60 (laminated ceiling) and also with 4 weeks old 0.11 Elixir strings. In the L6, I do not know which strings were rebuilt on the factory side. Therefore, the comparison is certainly not quite conclusive.
The sound of the Baton Rouge L6 I would call as balanced and warm - maybe something in the middle. Sustain over the frequency spectrum is quite even.
In comparison, the basses break away quite early in the echo. The heights of the fender sound relatively dull - as if a small silencer were on it. The strings, which are no longer exhausted, may also contribute part.
The volume is at least equivalent despite a shorter duration.
Therefore, I have given the price 5 stars for the sound and reached my second target as reached off.

4. OTHER
The lacquer is matt and therefore has a relatively rough surface. Visually it is nice to look, soundtechnically, but I find the following circumstance unclean:
When strumming, my forearm moves and touches the ceiling of the guitar. On the rough ceiling is then a slightly "scraping" noise which has irritated me at first. It also depends strongly on the nature of the clothing.
Maybe I will polish the ceiling smooth in the medium term to reduce that.

5. My conclusion:
I like the playability of the 46mm saddle in combination with the shorter scale length. The L6 offers a balanced, warm sound. Compared to my CD60 definitely progress - and that was finally the goal of the action.
I could imagine that the resale is a bit difficult. But if you like a guitar, there is actually no reason for it. For me the guitars are only a few years, so I expect from my two guitars no eternal life until the economic total damage.

From the first note convincing

Tobias8653, 11.08.2014
By a tip from my guitar teacher I struck the guitar and first pulled only her sister with pickups and cutaway in consideration. After I had both played in the store I had to unfortunately however unfortunately the "standard" L6 has a much more balanced sound picture. (But they both sound great!)
I now have the guitar for 3 weeks and have impressed every guitar player after I gave him the price for this piece of jewelry. (I would like to estimate the price beforehand All estimates> 500EUR)
It may not be the best guitar in the world, but the sound and feel of it can compete with a 500-700EUR Western, thus earning the 5 stars.
