One for the Pros.

Jim Rajan, 24.01.2018
I recently sent a track to be mastered at Real World Studios in the UK. They are amazing, and I had a chat with the Head of Mastering. He said how important it is to use Altiverb when using box (sampled) instruments, to 'fake' studio space. I did a load of research to check out other reverb packages but Altiverb wins hands down.

It not only has the placement tool, but the amount of spaces (real spaces) Altiverb has is phenomenal. It's intuitive to use, plus they keep on adding to the list of spaces and you get those additions free. I received the product very quickly from Thomann and install was super easy though you have to buy an Ilok key.

When I uploaded a track in Ableton and put on the Altiverb, it was like hitting the 'make it sound professional' button. It was instant. Then of course there are loads of tweeks you can do. The range of reverbs on Altiverb is incredible. Having used most of the reverbs out there, I can now understand why a top mastering engineer advised me on it. Buy it if you want to considerably raise your game.

Reference for Faltunghall

Peter538, 11.04.2014
I use Altiverb to quickly place classical natural instruments (orchestra / piano) or singers on a virtual stage.

The sound is impressive and the operation is really fun: the plugin shows a photo for every room ... so you can quickly find the right stage, and it has a very high recognition value.

To emphasize: Altiverb constantly and free of charge the available rooms, I use mainly stages and concert halls, but there are also bathrooms, cars and everything else.

In addition, the plugin provides various parameters that are musically sensible and easy to adjust. Here everything is intuitive and highly effective - this is really fun.
A feature is the positioning on a virtual stage, not just the room selection, but also "front or rear", "right or left". Here I had expected something more, it is feasible, but requires quite fine to get really good results. The feature goes for a fast demo, but remains behind the MIR of Vienna Instruments by the sound quality and usability.

Installation simple and unproblematic, ILOK needs. Newer versions need ILOK2, I find something annoying.
The computer utilization is relatively high for a reverb, but ok for a Faltunghall. Again, the comparison of MIR from Vienna Instruments scores significantly less CPU.
If you need the ultimate variety of high-quality convolution pulses, Altiverb is the right choice. If you want to place instruments from an orchestra, you should definitely look at MIR from Vienna Instruments: it offers considerably less space, but concept, operability and also sound play in a different league for this special application.

Otherwise it should be mentioned that many DAWs (eg Logic) are equipped with a very high quality Faltunghall which is sufficient for many applications and deliver the same sound quality.
