More human than Maschine
Larry Poulton, 03.01.2015
I owned and sold NI Machine some time ago - becoming a little disenchanted with the whole idea. Spark has rekindled my love and creativity. Im not sure why though. I do know that it just seems simpler to use, is more logically laid out and the sounds just.....more exciting. I especially like some of the weird and wonderful expansion packs. It may sound stupid but the layout of the main pads seems to work better for me, being linear rather than 4x4 grid as on Maschine. Maybe its my age and playing with all those TR808's as a young lad. The sounds themselves seem to be very well recorded and have no problem finding their home in my mixes. Physically the controller is very solid and would probably be good to gig. The s/w integrates seamlessly and so far has not crashed any more that anything else my iMac handles. The effects within the Studio and mixer section are more than ample for music making. Of course, if you want, multiple outs within your DAW are possible, allowing you to effect each instrument individually.

I use Spark within Logic. Syncing is no problem but I seem to have e problem where, on starting a song, the chosen kit will reset to a default. I can workaround it with some button pressing. Im pretty sure its me and there is a fix somewhere. Its no game stopper

I did have a problem importing REX files. It looked as if the manual was wrong when I worked out how to do it - so I informed Arturia. maybe it will get corrected. On the subject of support, Arturia have always been very good in my opinion, getting back to me within hours sometimes or a couple of days at most.

If you cannot stretch to the likes of Maschine and are looking for a good alternative at a fraction of the price, I can heartily recommend SparkLE. Its worth every penny.

Thomanns servece was, as usual, flawless.

not impressed that much
10.12.2015
..but I have admit this is really nice product. VERY portable, I like the case which comes with it but after sime time I stiked to the software only and the controller became a dust catcher. only sometimes I'm using it for some beat creation when it's easier to 'tap' drums. I'm not using it live, where this may shine. Just for my personal needs at home.
the hardware quality is very nice, VST and AU works nicely. great features. most of the sound banks are EDM-related but I think everyone can find what he's looking for and you can tweak each instrument (filter, decay, etc...)
