Ampeg SVT Micro Head B-Stock

B-Stock with full warranty

Bass Amp HeadSince its launch in 1969, there is no alternative to the original SVT from Ampeg. The classic convinces with its unique sound and its "tube-strong" 300 Watt output power.

Now, almost four decades later, Ampeg introduces a mini-version of the legendary amplifier, which was launched under the name of SVT Micro Head. It is ideal for smaller stages and sound studios, where an original SVT would be too big and too loud.

The Micro Head is visually linked to the original SVT - with the silver front plate, the black cover, the chrome-plated corners and the silver-blue face plate, the SVT Micro Head clearly makes it clear that it is not a toy. Despite its small dimensions of 14 cm (height), 30 cm (width) and 25 cm (depth), the head has a real Ampeg preamp and a strong 200 watt transistor output stage.

For recording sessions, the SVT Micro Head has an Aux-Stereo input, which is mixed with the main input and sent to the headphone output. . This feature allows the musician to listen to a click or guide track at the same time, record the direct signal from the "pream-out" and remove the amplifier via a microphone. For live applications, the familiar Ampeg Preamp controls include 15 dB pad, gain, bass, ultra-mid, treble, volume and limiter defeat, allowing the musician to quickly and effectively find the desired sound. The world-wide switching power supply and the compact dimensions make the amp the ideal travel companion.

Real horny, the little one!

Heinzelgrün, 20.03.2010
At first I was frightened by how small the child really is. And I also reaped the ridicule of my colleagues in the Ü-room: "Look, our bass player comes today with a handbag!"

The laugh was stuck in their throat when I joined him to my 4x12 "box: with 4 ohms of resistance, which offered him the box, the little one could drive out his imposing 200 watts full, and I would not have regulated him down hugely He pushed his colleagues smoothly to the wall.

That he has only a three-band EQ (bass, middle, high) comes to me personally very much. 10- and multi-volume equalizers confuse me rather than contribute to the clarity (also of the sound). Because I really want to make music and do not spend hours on buttons and sliders. With the three potentiators, the optimal sound is quickly found.

Otherwise, the sound is clean and my Fender New American Standard Jazz bass comes clear and growling. In spite of its "size" it is a real ampeg!

Supplement just 2 years later:

A few months after the purchase of the SVT Microhead I bought myself also the corresponding SVT 210AV box. In the meantime, I only play on this Mini-Stack from Microhead and 210AV Box! For my jazz band, where I play an Ibanez Soundgear SR800LE (bundled), this mini-stack is enough. And in my rock band we have a PA for what is outside of the Ü-space anyway, with what-I-know-how much kW and in-ear monitoring. Completely meaningless, still with boxes around the 50 kg and the associated amplifiers. I've thrown it all out! Only this small but fine mini-stack: the sound is perfect and my back thanks me.

Oh, the fan ... so, my jazz singer, with whom I often also "unplugged" practice, has never disturbed it - and Madam can be damn critical! And in the rock band? You're kidding!

Bonsai Bass Top with super sound

Ollie, 25.09.2010
I got my Ampeg Micro VR Head yesterday with the box SVT-210AV. I had read all the reviews, which were consistently positive, but was nevertheless surprised, what this small Amp with the 210er box really does.

I have tested the mini stack with my Ibanez ATK 300 4-string with 3-band active electronics. Firstly, I can absolutely confirm what is said in the tests provided by Thomann: The part sounds saugut and is also, measured on the compact dimensions, really loud. But loud is not necessarily a characteristic for a good sound! And it's just great! Although I have no comparison with a large Ampeg, the Micro sounds somehow tube. (I own a Kustom 300 DE bass top with pre-amp tube, which serves as a comparison). The fan noise is quite perceptible, does not bother me personally.

When striking the string sounds the Ampeg beautiful "grubig", not really torn, even with full gain setting, but somehow characteristic. The deep E of the bass guitar comes with the same orderly pressure as the other notes. The sound is taut and detailed over all frequencies. When you close your eyes, you think you have a much bigger bass system in front of you.

The 210s box sounds powerful, even in the low frequencies, and is free of distortion even with very loud volume settings. One misses also no high-frequency horn, because the speakers of the box transmit up to 5000 Hz, which corresponds to a guitar box. The limiter of the amp also limits the signal to avoid overloading the box.

With the one 8 Ohm box, the top "only" 150 watts, so I would be interested in what comes out with 2 boxes (4 ohms) with 200 watts out of the system! After the next rehearsal with my blues rock band I can say more ...

Meanwhile I play the small stack for 2 1/2 years without failures or repairs. Not only on almost all tape samples, but also on club gigs, partly also on the PA. The part sounds really good in all situations. This was an investment worth it! I use the facility at home even as a guitar amp. There are a few overtones, but it is enough for practicing.

Overall opinion: still excellent!
