Awesome little keyboard

BarryBarry, 06.07.2017
I needed a little midi keyboard that I could use to record and produce at home and take with me wherever I go and this does the job perfectly.

The keys are velocity sensitive and really comfortable to play which is a big plus. They feel a lot sturdier than other similar products I've tried. The pads are very sensitive which I also really like. In general everything feels robust and well built.

It's a little too long to fit in most of my bags which is slightly annoying but it's still really lightweight and easy to chuck in the back of my car.

Feature wise it has everything I need and everything it could have without sacrificing portability.

For the price I can't imagine anything better.

So I'll start at the top:

I produce with FL Studio 11. The keyboard was recognized immediately. However, the velocity, that is the sensitivity of the keys was not optimal for all VST instruments (especially the FL-Studio). It even disappointed me at first. Especially the pads were not really useful.

In order to adjust the keystrokes correctly, you first have to download the V25 editor from Alesis. I had overlooked this information first. It was in the ultra-thin guide booklet in it. The booklet makes a very cheap and Spartan impression. However, you can also download a manual from the Alesis page as a pdf. This is a real guide. The guide is in English only, but explains exactly how to set and calibrate the keyboard. There are also enough settings that I like personally. For example, I could adjust the velocity here (keyboard keys and pads). The pads, however, I have set directly to full Pulle, because otherwise they are not very sensitive. You certainly can not compare with an Akai MPC for 500 euros or with the pads of machine.
But to trigger the samples or even to record the drums are set so fine.

The Xpand software is also a pretty cool tool. I use this as a VST in my FL Studio. After a few troubles occurred during the installation (because you have to download after installation and after registering an additional small program) I was relieved when it finally ran. And it inspired me. There are a lot of cool sounds that will enrich any DAW.

CONCLUSION: The keyboard itself is for this price very high quality and chic of the design. The installation guide from Alesis is very thin in my opinion. One expects a clearer assistant who leads one through the entire installation. Since I would give Alesis prints here and not the keyboard, I stay at the total of 5 stars for the keyboard.
