Great entry level controller
DuncanH, 21.12.2020
Inexpensive (and it feels it) but very functional. USB powered which is ideal too! Keys feel a little lightweight but it works brilliantly. I'd buy this again immediately if I needed another.

Got what have expected
Dewsha, 01.09.2020
It's well known keyboard, a lot of reviews already exist on it. Personally I do not need a lot of knobs, tunes, pads etc. As all these stuff could be controlled by keyboard itself or via DAW directly, at least for my needs.
Thus, 60 EUR for keyboard with velocity sensitive keys is just a gift, including direct MIDI plug. It doesn't have aftertouch. Overall quality is good, keys perception and tactile is sweet. Plastic is not absolutely cheap, it's accurately built, without some visible flaws. IT is light and takes small place on the table. So, my conclusion - great stuff, if you need mostly basic functions from keyboard. Also it is supposedly good for gigging as it is very light.

Small midi keyboard for quick sessions with the computer
MrKorg, 22.02.2014
I needed a small midi keyboard for notation puposes on the computer. So I didn't want to use a heavy 88-key mothership and decided to order the Q49 midi keyboard from Alesis. Its very basic with its 49 normal sized keys and a pitch and modulation wheel. After connecting it via USB or Midi it's directly usable in your software. And thanks to Alesis for the standard midi output! This is quite useful, because sometimes I like to connect the Q49 to other keyboards, and most of them don't support class compliant usb midi connections.

The keys theirselves are very easy weighted, even for synth-like keys. It needs some minutes, till you feel comforable on the Q49. Furthermore the space between the keys is sometimes a bit different. It's not a huge problem, but the building quality ain't the best. But it's good enough to work with the keyboard (and that's said by a player with more than 15 years of experience), so don't worry to much about this.

The changing of midi parameters is a bit inconvinient. You have to choose the parameter with a hit on a key (the parameters are listed above the keys) and then you can change the value with a slider, which is above the two wheels. But if you are a user like me, who doesn't really change parameters often, thats not a problem. I just use the Q49 as a input-keyboard. And for this job the Q49 from Alesis is absolutely advisable.

The Alesis Q49 controller does its job. It lacks additional controls like faders or encoders, but that's not what it was meant for: if you're looking for a budget midi keyboard to learn to play piano or to control external devices it is ok. The feeling of the keys isn't top notch, if you're a classical piano player you will be disappointed, but for everybody else will be just fine.
