The ultimate lifting tool.

As a long fan of AKG-listeners (own or possessed so far K-500, K-701, K-712) I have now bought the K-812. As a friend of open headphones, these had so far all the problem that they developed in low bass (am organist and love the 32'-basses) simply too little thrust. With the K-701 I got because of the pimples after some wearing time also always headaches.

So I was also curious, what would expect me with the 812 with its 53-mm driver. And when I first heard a transcription of Richard Strauss (played on the Kölner Domorgel), the shiver crawled down from my head to the tip of my toes. So a genial bass I had not heard of a headphone yet.

Who now however, the K-812 can only bass, which I must disappoint: The 812 sounds simply spectacular unspectacular. If the acoustic instruments had a slightly artificial flavor on the 712, the top model would sound so natural that you forgot to wear a headphone after a while. In-head localization, which has always disturbed me with headphones, is almost nonexistent, everything is grouped around the head, depending on the piece of music in half or full circle. The virtual stage appears to be smaller than in the 7th century, but sound sources can be precisely located. Voices sound so real, depending on the recording quality that you do not have to look for the much quoted curtain. And on my main organ I had to take off the headphones, to check whether my monitors were not running.

Negatives there are also to report. Bad recordings are broken by the AKG correctly, with these one prefer the headphones and listen to them over loudspeakers.

I have the akg k812 since about 2 months in use, daily. First I wanted to order the k702, but read randomly a test report on the k812 and wanted to know then. Is the k812 really so much more to accept the high price? Short and unambiguous - yes.

Why I the tragekomfort only with 4 stars have assessed is possibly at my own anatomy or the wider becoming crest. I had previously only akg in use (k240, k280 and 2 x k240df) and they also because of their tragetkomfort other headphones prefer. Since everything is plastic and not breathing active, perhaps they slip less on the slack. With the k812 I miss something the adhesion. However, he sits comfortably and does not carry with a long time to hot ohrmuscheln, since he encircles these completely and s.ntstelle sit. It slips just a little, if one bends the head strongly to the front, in which case perhaps also affects the higher weight, which one hardly feels otherwise.

In all other points I can only give 5 stars, would also give ten, if it were possible.

The exact description of the sound is not enough. You can try it like this: when I put it on the first time I was skeptical and had a bit jammel so much money in the sand. I listened to the first cd and was baffled, almost touched by this hearing experience. You suddenly hear the sound you did not notice before, sounded in all clear to the right and left the previously somehow submerged, a bass down to the deepest depth of the recording without droning or cluttering other frequencies and agree. Clear heights and without bite and sharp ... boah. Just because of this sound experience, I got back to listen to much of my music collection, often with surprises and increased enjoyment. But you can also be disappointed because you recognize less good productions, because a nice color is the k812 not, rather merciless analytical, I like that. One hears the recording and not the thing on the head.

This was the first time I experienced the task. For weeks I was sitting on the mixing and mastering of a cd with acoustic guitar music. Due to spatial circumstances, I can not work with near-field monitors, especially not late in the evening. I am dependent on headphones. With more electronic and / or electrical music I had so far always quite well a balanced sound picture hints that also boxed, if also something different, good listen. With this acoustic music I was disappointed every time, although I listen to the headphones with the headphones the isses now really. Too much or too little bass, middle or high, somehow never balanced and unnatural, always a different hall-impression than before heard.

Then I heard the whole over the k812 ... uhps, no wonder, there is still too much in the bass which spoils the overall level, an unsuitable center frequency selected the lowering the nasals in the middle emphasized, still clearly too many heights, a middle range of the Guitar looks unnaturally hard, etc ....
The clear linear and analytical reproduction of the k812 allows you to quickly find the right settings for the EQ, which also applies to the use of the compressor and the mixing of rooms or echos, as well as other effects. A work relief that I did not expect so. In a few days I had finally finished the CD. I would like to say that the k812 now my most important tool is to make good audiobearbeitung. 5x5 stars.

In this context, I consider it to be cheap even in the sense that it is cheap. If one considers that of my above mentioned headphones the oldest scarcely 30 the youngest nearly 20 years old and still function reliably (well, the ear pads I have exchanged, which is cheap and easy), it is a long-term investment Which is so fast technically not to be overtaken. The show just the old akg headphones.

Conclusion: Who on close-range monitors in similar quality and price, for different reasons so waive must with the k812 an adequate tool for the audiobearbeitung available. Even more, he can take him wherever he needs in with and thus becomes even more flexible. I think the akg k812 is highly recommended.
