Quality AKG

02.09.2016
I was very pleased with the quality AKG, but having broken the ruler of the arch, I am staying at AKG to take version 2. (The helmet is solid, it is I who did not Not careful ...)

After receiving the mkII version, the two headphones are exactly the same with sound improvements. The mkII has a slightly finer sound and a bit more bass, but neither too much nor too much, the big problems of the mk1 which was a little too neutral. The sound is always as good and really sounds like an open headphone.

The quality of manufacture always at the top, made in Austria (it changes ...) The atria are harder to turn than the mk1 see a little too much of the blow.

Its weak point is that it does not have a detachable cable.

If you are looking for a high quality headset for not too expensive, this one is really very good!
But be careful it is a closed helmet it can quickly hurt the skull and the ears if you are not accustomed to the fact that the sound can not escape, so it will not suit everyone.

Sheep in wolf felted

Holger B., 08.02.2016
The K-550 MKII did not like me at all. For 20 years, I only listen to and recommend AKG headphones, because they always sounded best for me in direct listening comparisons with competitors. Over the K-240 studio and -MK II I came to the K-702, then I stayed with the 271 MKII, because I need a closed headphone. This can be accused of little, except that he has too little bass. In the hope of getting a 271 MKII, just with more bass and perhaps better brilliance and resolution, I ordered blindly and joyfully the K-550 MKII. Because, the legend goes, a new product is often much better than an old one, even if it is considerably more expensive. I have sent him back immediately. He has powerful bass down to the low frequencies, but I find he records the basses, as I know from bad HIFI bass reflex boxes. Also presence, resolution and brilliance in the middle and high range do not reach my 271 MK II. The overtone spectrum, for example, of the Steinway, I feel as wrong, listed and somehow latently synthetic. Likewise, my poor ears seem to get hot faster than under the 271 MKII. I felt it was unpleasant more than 30min to listen to music, at the 271MKII two hours are no problem. I had occasion to hear the more favorable K-550 in direct comparison to my 271MKII longer time sample, and must say, which I found better than the K-550 MKII. Too bad, but maybe I have a Monday production caught, or my ears have already irreversibly adapted to the 271 MKII after all the years, I do not know. One point for the chic design, and one for the folding mechanism, but there is no more of me. Incidentally, I also miss the power switch, which mutes the headphones during the mute. In any case, I have planned to make an excursion to Burgebrach soon, if there is not something better.
