A top micro that has already left the secret tip status

Dantschge, 08.10.2009
The legendary sound of the AKG large-diaphragm microphones has stood for the design of the C214. With no possibility of switching between different directivity characteristics (ie a second diaphragm), which do not play a role for my applications, AKG has created a microphone that offers the great sound of AKG's large diaphragm microphones at an affordable price.

During the first use in live mode, I amplified my double bass in addition to the pickup with the AKG C214 and thus achieved a sound that can be measured with professional studio recordings. Also the percussionist of my group had a C214, over which he played various instruments, which kept all their characteristic sound and were transmitted optimally by the microphone. When playing live in front of a relatively quiet accordion, the microphone is unfortunately somewhat feedback-sensitive when the accordion is played back over the monitors.

The microphone sounds very present, which is more favorable for more duller sound sources (eg double bass) and, of course, for percussive, transient sound sources (percussion, A guitars). For singing at rather high pitches the C214 does sometimes even slightly too much of the good. Compared to an AKG Perception 820T, the C214 still performs better, with clearer heights and better resolution. It is nice if you have the choice! A sound comparison with a C3000 in vocal recording has shown the clearly more precise and nuanced recording of the C214 against the C3000.

When the guitar is released together with an AKG C451 B, the detailed faithfulness of the guitar sound and the possibilities of design are enhanced by the combined acceptance with a large diaphragm microphone close to the sound hole and a small diaphragm microphone at the neck end. This allows you to mix the desired sound from transient highs and sound basses.

The direct comparison between my AKG C451B stereophile and my AKG C214 stereophonic at a concert (Symphonieorchester) both results were very good. While the C451B delivers a very brilliant, high-pitched sound (through the use of summer cables and a SPL Vitalizer in the follow-up, the elevation of the higher frequencies even a little too much to the effect, while in the past with normal cables the canting was just pleasant and transparent) , The recordings with the C214 show slightly more substance and belly below. Depending on the acoustics of the room and the sound, it makes sense to use the C451B (with dull acoustics) or the C214 (with light acoustics) to get the best stereo recordings.

AKG Forever

Emilio José Q., 24.01.2013
This large membrane microphone captures a faithful and clear sound leaves very clean the voice when recording original CDs, I have also tried to record batteries and flamenco guitar and the sound that layer is very clean although later it could use some retouching
