Short review of AKAI MPK 225
JML. 07.11.2014
I am new to using music hardware and the only thing I ever bought before was small headphones, so I can't really compare this product to others. But so far I am very satisfied with it - it seem to be good quality build and does the job. So far the only things I find short of perfect are:
- The USB cable sticking out the back, which is making it somewhat clumsy to have the keyboard together with my laptop on a small table. If the connectors were sideways or sunk into the body more it would be better.
- Some of the menu controls (in particular, confirming edits for a preset) seem a little bit unintuitive - press 'preset' instead of the otherwise used 'enter' button to confirm edits confused me and I eventually had to look into the manual.
- Fairly small keyboard range. But that's by design.
These are small details and I would recommend this keyboard for anyone in need of a few keys for composing music in a small space. The keyboard is not very bulky and fairly light in terms of weight.

Overall good buy. Except for Thomann delivery - it took weeks of waiting for this package to arrive, because I didn't notice that it was not in stock when I ordered it, and then it was further postponed. I wasn't happy about that and was getting close to cancelling the order, but it did turn up eventually and I think it was worth the wait.

Well, I bought it because of what it could do. Surprisingly on Mac and Protools, you'd have to make same excersices to get it working and good workflow.
Info on akai website and forum is totally inprecise on how to get it configured and to install and register properly.
But when you get through all of that - it's a very rigid and powerfull system. Very good pads. Construction is quite strong and resistant.
When you get into it , it gets a useful tool for studio and to play live.
