Great Keyboard

09.05.2015
Do not rely on the slightly plastic look of the product, it is of good quality.
One notices in the first place the imposing size of the controllers: they fall well at hand and in use they display an excellent resolution.
The pads are very sensitive and support a good dynamic range that extends from touching to typing. Note also that the pads have an aftertouch distinct from the keyboard that can be used with another midi channel.
The setting is simple and efficient; To the Ableton Live 9 branch immediately recognizes the product and maps the controllers to the first 8 tracks (volume, panning, and track selection). The pads are immediately mapped to the first elements of the drumkits.
The keyboard is a bit hard but is fairly accurate and pleasant to use. But the keys are slightly shorter than on other keyboards, which probably contributes to the impression of hardness (less lever) and removes a little comfort. I think this is a choice of Akai to avoid having a keyboard too large because the controllers and pads already occupy a rather important place. I also deplore the positioning of the wheels at the top while I naturally look for them on the left. The aftertouch of the keyboard also requires a fairly strong pressure which goes to the detriment of the accuracy but with a little habit, one gets done. To some extent, the keyboard prompts the user and gives the impression of being "physical" enough; Hope that this also augurs a good robustness of the product.
We regret an under-use of the screen; During the performance, it simply displays the name of the current preset: it is useless. Very convenient in contrast mode in Edit mode, just touch a controller to see and modify all parameters. The angle of view is good but I would have preferred an inclined screen.

Some original features:
- Arpeggiator quite complete but users will prefer that of Live simpler to use.
- Tap button to detect a tempo. Sympa but we regret that the tempo is not transmitted to Live and the tempo value must be searched in the depths of the Global setting
- Possibility of mapping some buttons (the track selectors under the sliders) to PC keyboard keys. Not yet found use.
