The theory and the reality

Thomas884, 14.03.2018
After months of delay by 2Box, it was finally available. The 2Box Drumit Three.

Theory:
I have to admit, my expectations for the module were enormously high. Is it really possible to create multi-layered sounds with up to 127 velocity levels? Should it really be possible to use (in my case) eg Roland Cymbals? Almost a module for everything?
The egg legend Wollmilchsau?

The practice:
The first question that came to mind, how should I attach the module to my rack? Unfortunately, the package does not include a retaining plate for attachment. The hole spacing is standard 10cm x 7cm. Fortunately, I still had a plate.
To connect to the PC you need a standard USB cable (eg from a printer). Unfortunately there is no cable attached to the module.
The USB? Connection from the module to the PC was unproblematic. The PC immediately recognized the module. Without even connecting pads, I took first the velocity levels before. After a short training in the free editor of 2Box (which you get on the 2Box homepage for free) it started? Since I already had samples in 80 levels, it was an easy drag and drop the wave files over and pull a file in .dsnd format to create. If everything stays that easy, I have the "egg legend Wollmichsau? probably found.

Let's see what the module can do.
Trigger cables are also not included with the module. But it is not dramatic, because I still had enough cables. After everything was wired, it was time to calibrate the hi-hat. In my case, a Roland VH-11. Step-by-step I followed the Quickstart Guide. By this time it was 20: 30h. At 03: 30h I canceled the attempt unsuccessfully. It was just not possible to create a reasonably recordable hi-hat. Apart from the fact that the sound of the various hi-hat? S and all other sounds are not really useful. But that was already clear to me. Samples I have enough, I was in the box anyway only to the 'possibilities? and not the sounds. Also the next day I was not able to conjure something playable and I'm definitely not a beginner stuff e-drums.

After this experience I had already lost the desire and the time to deal with the other toms and cymbals. Here double triggers and so on had to be removed.

I wanted a module that can handle samples as well as my hi-hat and cymbals.
And for a reasonable price. A pity, but currently. There is probably only the Roland TD-50 or the Pearl Mimic Pro that comes closest to my expectations. Possibly. The Roland TM-6 Pro would be an alternative. But that leaves something to come.
