Playing with these mallets might be a bit of a shock if you are used to playing marimba with yarn-wrapped marimba mallets. In truth, these mallets are closer to xylophone mallets than the aforementioned 'ordinary' marimba mallets. Using them in a 4-mallet grip requires you to have a very relaxed, loose grip, because they have a very 'weightless' feel, and they really don't bounce when your hands are wrapped to tightly around them.
What do these mallets do for you? They give you a very clear attack, without sounding particularly bright. They are great for well-articulated rhythmic phrases. Also, because these light-weight mallets don't pack a big punch to the instrument as a whole, they are very good for old instruments that might make some unfortunate buzzing sounds when you hit the bars.
