C
evaluation Harley Benton HBV 890BCF 4/4
Christophe478 10.02.2013

Great electric violin for a budget!
JakeC 23.01.2020
This was my first electric violin and I've always been looking for a solidbody violin I could use for practice in the night or when I don't want to be heard.

First setup was quite tricky because the bridge is to be place at the slot where the pickup is installed in. While I was tuning the violin, the bridge was pulled too far towards the head and came off of the slot.

I am using it as I listen to the sound through the headphone jack, with my metronom sound inserted via the mic jack. I didn't read the instruction manual thoroughly, so I don't know what mic jack is designed for, but it works just like any Line in jack on any audio device. The violin output is not very strong even though its an active system using 9V battery. But the sound quality is okay, not sounding too dull or boomey or the high frequency boosted too annoyingly.

I'm pretty sure if you want a GREAT sounding electric violin, you must be looking into Yamaha stuff as well. I tried out Yamaha electric stringed instruments, and Harley Benton isn't as sophisticated as much, but check the price.
THIS IS AMAZING.

HBV 890BCF 4/4: a feel and sound I love
Anonyme 27.01.2017
Some few years ago I did start to play violin and suddenly I did find myself with three of them: a low cost one, a good one for study and a 100 years old one, family heritage.

I'm a musician by hobby, at home I do record my own music using multitrack record systems, so an electrical violin was the natural choice. The HBV 890BCF 4/4 was a try for me, but I'm really very happy with it.

Compared to the 100 years old acoustic violin it have less harmonics but the sound have a personality and with the string set I love (everyone of us have a string set of choice, isn't?), it have a superb sound and nearly the same playing feel of the ancient violin. And it mix very well with other electrical instruments too, leaving a pleasant mark on the records.

As a plus, it weight nealy the same as my study acoustic instrument so it is also a perfect mute instrument for exercising (even at night).

It's not perfect: in some side parts the varnish isn't as gloss as in the visible surfaces but when I discovered this I was already in love with the instrument and while Thomann people did offer to have it replaced, I refused.

I would only have purchased it before throwing money on the low cost one!
