If you can describe a guitar as "fascinating", then this is the one. Coming from Ibanezes and Jacksons, it was challenging at first to get used to the thicker neck and to the medium frets...but this eventually paid back for me in better technique and a more musical approach to composition.
Don't listen to those who claim that this is an instrument only for blues or classic rock: of course you can play those genres with it, AND many more! During the one year I had it, I recorded and performed metal music and rearrangements of classical pieces, and this baby never let me down.
Beautiful finish, and feeling of a solid instrument. It never goes out of tune, even if carried around in the cold inside a basic gigbag.
Sounds bright, with a robust midrange when unplugged, with tons of sustain. When plugged in, the SH-14 Custom 5 shows all its open and massive sound, complementing those acoustic features with articulation and clarity.
The P-90 is a beautiful neck pickup, creamier than a standard single coil, but more open sounding than a humbucker.
