Recording King Dirty 30s Open Back Banjo

Simple yet beautiful banjo at great price. Mine came with pretty much perfect finish without any flaws on any part. Sound of this instrument is really good for the price. It hast that nice old timey banjo sound that is perfect for Clawhammer/Frailing style of playing. When played with finger picks it's nice and loud, but not as bright as a banjo with tone ring or resonator (well duh). Tuners are the worst part of the instruments and they keep tuning like you would expect from an instrument of this price range. Prepare for tuning between every few songs. My banjo was setup pretty nicely right out of the box, I just moved the bridge back about 1mm and the tuning was spot on.
I would definitely recommend this banjo as a first banjo for anyone interested to jump in to banjo.

Sadly, not my best experience. I've bought a few things from them before an always good service. The frets on this banjo were outrageously dangerous! I could easily have cut my fingers badly on this. Never seen anything like it!! But I'd also been through a nightmare with the new VAT rules which added £50 to the price!!! (Approx 30% with various handling charges!!). Thomann were not really apologetic. Defensive? They explained that the pretty small, feint print under the price has now been placed there to say 'Free shipping and Excluding VAT' and also at check out but what normal retail purchaser is going to either be VAT registered or, as is likely, not be aware of the new rules and know to look out for this?. Either Thomann didn't want to deter too many customers or it's a bit of a shocking oversight. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They said I can send it back and get a refund on the tax but I've just seen reports in the news that THAT might not be as easy as it sounded..... I didn't send the banjo back for that reason, bought myself a fret file, googled 'how to' on YouTube and brought the instrument up to the standard it should have originally been delivered in......NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!

Creo que es un buen instrumento.
Esta mañana ha venido el señor de UPS a las 9 de la mañana, y me ha pillado recién levantada sin fumar y sin tomar el café, por lo que a primera vista me ha parecido que el banjo traía los herrajes bastante marranetes.
Después de fumarme el cigarro de la mañana y tomar café me ha parecido una maravilla, y he recordado que como se llama Dirty, tiene que tener ese toque sucio, autentico, claro!
Es de esos instrumentos que los miras y piensas, "OHH un banjo antiguo", te teletransporta a otra época, y te ves con una mecedora, escopeta, camisa de cuadros y escupidera en un porche yanqui.
Recording King es una buena marca, solo hacen instrumentos de bluegrass.
Puede que este sea el modelo mas económico de Recording King pero aun así es un buen banjo.
El mástil es una maravilla, de arce. Dicen que el arce le da tonos mas agudos. El aro es multicapa, es mas grueso que los cuerpos de caoba o nato de otros banjos baratitos y eso es buena cosa para un banjo.
Es ligero, perfecto para viajar, para tocar en la calle, y para aprender.
Con las uñas de colorines de Harley Benton suena bien alto, me encanta. Estoy agradecida por el envío, venia muy protegido en su cajita.
