Needs adjustment if it's for the 3rd and 4th strings, but works and looks great
Benjamin I., 30.05.2016
My Telecaster is a Classic Vibe, they're great except they have only one string tree, so the middle strings sound a little dull compared to the others, because they don't have the required angle at the headstock.
The Montreux tree had a little rust because it's made of steel, I removed it with a metal brush. If it was made of chromed brass like the original tree on my Tele, it couldn't corrode. The grooves had machining marks and little burs, I removed them with 800-grit sandpaper, which polished the grooves at the same time.
Then I took the small cylinder at the tip of a bass string, and I put it under the tree to lift it to the right height. Without the extra height, middle strings would be bent too hard, they would sound and feel a little harsh, and they wouldn't stay in tune as long.
The extra cylinder's hole had to be enlarged a bit, and the cylinder needed to be shortened, with rough sandpaper. Also, the expensive Montreux screw had to be replaced, it was too fat for the extra cylinder.
But after this tedious adjustment, the thing looks real neat, and all the strings finally sound the same, attack-wise. Tuning doesn't suffer because the tree's grooves are polished and oiled.
For seven euros you should have a second, longer screw, and a matching cylinder in case you install the tree on the middle strings, but it will keep the strings at the right angle for the lifetime of the guitar, and it looks neat, like the original.
