Ibanez SRH505F-NNF Bass Workshop

I was extremely satisfied with this product. It's a sturdy bass, though quite lightweight, with a pretty design like most Ibanez Soundgear models.

It is comfortable. The auxiliary lines, although almost imperceptible, are quite easy to see in situations of low light; as they reflect some brightness. It may sound stupid, but in live situations, it's good to know you have that extra.

The sound of the piezo pickup is well above the norm (nicely enhancing the semi-hollow body), and the tone options are quite straightforward. I have used it live and in the studio with the pre-amp, completely flat. Sometimes it almost sounds like a double bass (more than many of Ibanez's electrical ones).

The only thing that could be different is the material that the nut is made of (plastic, it seems) and that's why I do not give the five stars in the features. Still, it does not affect the quality/sound of the bass in any way.

For a fairly bearable price, it's a bass guitar for life; with only one upgrade or another over time.
I just made the basic set-up, set the intonation and lower the action of the strings, to be more to my taste (as I always do); just it. Even the strings with which it comes are good and in good condition.
The option to calibrate the individual volume per string is excellent but, frankly, I did not even have to use it, everything was already well balanced.
Also, although the system is passive, it has a lot more volume than usual.

Great buy. I will continue to use it, recurrently.

P.S. - It is also quite addictive to play.

Oui, elle se positionne exactement là où je l'attendais tant en terme de son que de simplicité de réglage (deux potards).

Jeu plutôt orienté Jazz, Latin, Fusion,..

Un bouton pour la tonalité qui fait vraiment évolué le son d'un grave profond à un médium/aigu nasillard à souhait. Un "growl" de fretless très présent naturellement. Un régal.

On reste sur un son très typé contrebasse.

D'un point de vue jeu elle est super agréable avec un manche fin à souhait.
Bon, il a fallut qu'elle passe quand même par un petit réglage de manche et de hauteur de cordes. Mais ceci reste tellement personnel.

Côté poids, c'est une plume...

Habitué à un jeu de cordes E-A-D-G-C, le B grave d'origine m'a déstabilisé. J'attendais donc avec impatience la corde qui allait tout changer ;-)

Le C aigu est arrivé hier soir. J'ai maintenant la basse que j'attendais d'avoir.

Un seul point vraiment négatif pour cette basse concerne la position des marques/repères. En fait le même principe de point (simple et double) est utilisé sur la touche et sur la tranche. Sauf que sur la tranche ils matérialisent la position de certaines frettes alors que sur le manche ils sont plutôt entre les frettes (????). En fonction de la position on voit donc la tranche et le manche et là ça peut se compliquer...Mais avec le temps on s'y fait.

Vorne weg, ich bin kein Bässe-Sammler. Ich habe nach über 20 Jahren Dauerehe mit meinem Marleaux einfach mal Lust gehabt, was neues auszuprobieren und hab dann gleich auch noch den Schritt in Richtung Fretless mitgemacht, weil ich den irgendwie nie gemacht hatte. Von daher ist das eine Bewertung eines Menschen, der seit sehr langer Zeit kein nagelneues Instrument mehr in der Hand hatte und der live (vorerst (und vor allem nach Corona...)) weiterhin fretted spielen wird. Der Fretless ist für mich zum erweitern des Horizontes und der einen oder anderen Aufnahme gedacht.

Und der Eindruck nach ein paar Wochen im hin und wieder mal drauf rumdudeln Betrieb ist sehr positiv. Der Bass spielt sich schön, liegt gut in der Hand, hat dank des hohlen Korpusses auch ohne Verstärker genug Volumen, wenn man mal nur so spielen möchte.

Die Verarbeitung ist top, nichts rattert oder wackelt, alles so wie es sein soll. Ich hatte zu Beginn ein wenig Sorge, dass die H-Saite etwas zu tief liegt und nachjustiert werden will, damit sie nicht scheppert, aber als ich dann ein paar kleine Probeaufnahmen gemacht habe, war das kein Thema mehr.

Die Features sind bei einem Volumeregler und einem Klangregler natürlich sehr spärlich, aber das war für mich auch genau das, was ich wollte und tatsächlich kann man auch mit dem einen Regler und verschiedenen Spielweisen näher am Hals und näher an der Bridge usw. einiges an unterschiedlichen Sounds raus holen. Puristen werden ihre Freude haben, Soundtüftler und Knöpfchenliebhaber werden hier vielleicht eher an der Verstärkung schrauben müssen, wenn ihnen die Optionen nicht reichen. Jedem Tierchen sein Pläsierchen. Ich wollte genau das.

Die eingearbeiteten Bundlinien, von denen ich mir etwas "Fretless-Hilfe" erhofft hatte, sind schwer zu erkennen und letztendlich keine große Orientierungshilfe, die Punkte oben auf dem Hals hingegen schon. Und bei ausreichender Beleuchtung kann man mit denen und den Linien schon ganz gut arbeiten. Was allerdings etwas verwirrt, ist die Tatsache, dass die Punkte auf dem Griffbrett an ihren Standardpositionen zwischen den Bünden bzw. den Bundlinien sind, die auf der Oberseite des Halses aber genau an den Bundpostitionen Wenn man also vorm Spiegel übt, ist das schon etwas seltsam, das die Punkte im Spiegel und die der Draufsicht auf den Hals nicht übereinstimmen. Aber daran gewöhnt man sich schnell.

Alles in allem bin ich für den Preis sehr zufrieden und freue mich, das gleich der erste Testballon auf der Suche nach einem neuen Spielzeug (für mich) ein Volltreffer war.

Ibanez liefert ab und bleibt mit dem Instrument auch in meiner kleinen bescheidenen nicht wirklichen Sammlung.
