Harley Benton MB-20BK Rock Series

Olen ostellut halppiskitaroita köyhyyden ja ihan omaan tarpeeseen riittävyyden takia. Joykut HB kitarat ovat olleet hurisevia ja nauhojen päädyt hiomattomia eikä tämä ole poikkeus. Kaulakäsi repii pahasti nauhoihin, päädyt ovat HB-normaalia enemmän ulkonevat. Monet aloittelijat eivät tiedä / osaa nauhojen päiden hiontaa ja heille tämä on hyvin ikävä soitettava. Toiset taas osaavat hioa / hiotuttaa ja osaavat odottaa että tämän hintaluokan kitarassa hiominen tulee eteen.

Maattohurinaa tässä oli enemmän kuin muissa ostamissani malleissa, foliovuoraaminen auttoi hiukan, potikoiden ym. vaihtaminen lienee edessä. Yllättävänä lisänä tone potikan nollaan kääntäminen katkaisee sgnaalin kuten volume potikankin nollaan kääntäminen. Lienee potikan vaihto tarpeellinen tästäkin syystä.

Kaulan löysyys yllätti suuresti: jos makaan sängyssä kitara vatsan päällä, kaulakäsi ei kosketa kitaraan, plektrakäsi rämpäyttää soimaan ja nostan yhdellä sormella kaulasta vatsan päältä ylös, niin vire putoaa kuin vibtakampea painettaessa. Kaulaan ei siis saa kohdistua pienintäkään vääntöä. Yllättävää kyllä, kun vääntö lakkaa niin vire ei olekaan aivan sekaisin kuten luulisi vaan melko kohdallaan. Outoa.

Yleisesti ottaen, HB halppis jossa odotettavat nauhojen päätyjen hionnat sekä elektroniikan häiriösuojaus tehtävä, kaulan löysyys yllättävä lisämiinus, mutta omaan korvaan ja viehtymykseen soi melko mukavasti ja soittotatsi sopii itselleni, kieliä ei voi kovin alas säätää ennenkuin kaulan löysyys selvitetty, 2-6 nauhat särisevät jos matalaa säätöä haluaa.

I had the urge for a small customisation project this summer, so I wanted a cheap guitar I could upgrade. Having good previous experience with Harley Benton I went for the Mockingbird replica which is excellent value for the price.

Pros
- The neck is wonderful for this price! Comfortable "C" shape with a smooth satin finish on the back. No sprouting and the fret ends have been nicely smoothed - great job! Neck was straight, no abnormal fret buzz and no truss rod adjustment required.
- Excellent paint finish, no blemishes or missing spots. Other than a tiny tool mark on the nut this looked perfect out of the box.
- Tuning stability and tuners are good. Machine heads feel precise and tuning only needing a minor correction a week after initial tune-up.

Cons:
- Quality control on the strap buttons was bad. I needed to screw them in tight, since one worked loose after fitting a strap.
- True to the original design, this suffers from neck dive. I've put 400g weights in the control cavity to act as a counter balance, but it's not perfectly balanced yet.

Sounds fine out of the box, with two humbuckers that are well balanced and adequate for the job and there is some warmth from the neck pickup. I was also very impressed there was almost no background noise from the original pickups and electronics. I've replaced the pickups with DiMarzios to give it a more classic hard rock sound.
The biggest drawback is lack of comfort. Because of the design, the neck feels like it starts further back so you need a slightly longer reach. The neck dive I've already described. I had difficulty finding a good posture while standing and playing and I think this could be an uncomfortable instrument for playing a full concert.

For the price this is excellent value. The neck is one of the most crucial parts of any instrument and this plays as well as guitars many times the price. If you can work with the neck dive and overall shape you've got a cool looking instrument for a great price.

I absolutely love this guitar although it came with a chipped point from the shipping company which Thomann took care of for me. Great build quality-set up was spot on. I did lower the action and put on heavier gauge strings. Will probably swap out the tuners for black locking ones. Just like the black look. Pickups sound much clearer with more bass than the Harley Benton Warlock I also have purchased recently which has passive humbuckers. The active stock pickups do sound actually really good. Was gonna swap the out for some Lace Dirty Heshers or Emg's but will save those for some other guitars. HB pickups, even stock cheaper ones, sound much better in my opinion than the other low end ceramic pickups found in other less expensive guitars. The stock pickups in both guitars sound really good for a $100 guitar. Neck is straight and smooth with no fret sprout. Will put in a tusq nut but it does stay in tune pretty well with pretty good sustain. The controls and electronics all work and the bridge seems to be pretty good too. I also think it looks amazing. I lost an old neck thru Mockingbird many years ago so very happy to have this guitar. Well done!

The one I got had the neck misaligned with the strings. From fret 12, 1st string is almost impossible to play with. Looks like the holes for neck attachment were drilled in the wrong place. On top of that, scale regulators are made of something far too weak - a screw broke during the first tuning.
The design itself is wrong - the guitar is completely off balance and very hard to play standing, because the neck falls down when let loose.
