lo-mid punch and the right amount clarity
Tuntematon 01.02.2016
I bought these strings for a studio session of my rock band. I've tried plenty of strings during 18 years of playing the bass (steel, nickel, flatwound, roundwound, coated, etc.) but these are my new favorite.

During recent years I've changed back and forth between DR hi-beams and lo-riders, but there is a slight disadvantage with them when they are new. For my preference, the hi-beams have too much high-end and the low-riders lack a little bit of mid-range.

The Pure blues nickel string has a nice amount of lo-mids and higher low-end (it doesn't feel too bassy but punches thru really well), and when you play from little bit higher the clarity of the high-end is just perfect. Listening to our last recordings, there is a clear difference in how the bass comes thru the mix.

They also say that nickel is nicer for your fingers, which you can notice when you slide your left hand along the strings. They don't dig in so much. With strings the wearing is always a problem, and i haven't noticed any real difference with these strings and other quality strings.

But anyway, you should check out DR's website, where they have sound samples and decide for your self!

Balanced sound

As with other nickel wound strings, these strings sound well balanced to my ears; they are neither too bright nor too warm (compared with other string types), but depending on your setup, you can easily push them in either direction (but not drastically). After having them on my bass for ~3 months now, they did lose some "freshness" after 1-2 weeks, yet they still sound great and didn't lose much character since then.

If you prefer more balanced sound and you're looking for a durable strings, I would recommend to try these out.

Excellent sound and feel

These newish DR's are a lot like the Sunbeams - very flexible, low tension and smooth. The main difference is a bit more edge to the sound, moving a nickel feeling string closer to a brighter stainless steel sound. Really great strings.

One of the best bass strings on the market. Great sustain and balance. Pure natural tone. Absolute recommendation.
