Good start

This is a very good start for a new addicting hobby. Robust build quality and good sound. The modules also work pretty well together for a variety of sounds. But even though the value is quite good compared to buying the modules separately, it's probable that you will soon "grow out" of some of them. For example you may later want to replace some modules with their dual/quad versions to save space. Or choose something more advanced. So if you know what you want, you may want to check if it's cheaper to buy the parts individually.

my first modular

I've been making music with fixed architecture synthesisers for more than 30 years. For a long time modular synthesisers were far beyond my budget and (i thought) beyond my expertise.

This Doepfer Basic System was my first foray into modular synthesis and what a great place to start! The system itself is fully featured with lots to get started with. The build quality is high, the modules and controls seem sturdy and built to last. The possibilities in this system alone are vast. One good piece of advice i took was to get a case with some room for expansion and this one has 84HP for you to fill with whatever you wish.

The case itself was no disappointment as it is sturdy, precisely built and smoothly finished plywood. I think these cases are beautiful just as they come.

as a side note Thomann's customer service is second to none and the synthesiser was delivered to me very swiftly and at a very competetive price.

My first step into modular synthesis and the Doepfer delivers! The sound is great and the construction is very sturdy. Years of happy experimentation ahead.

First of all cudos to Thomann for a 1st class customer service!
I would say its a perfect entry to the world of moduler synths. It would have been nice to have an LFO modual with CV in to sync it to clock for instance.

The midi I/O ports on the A-190-4 are near on impossible to get midi cable in and out, some cables are better than others but still i worry i will break it and have never had a snug fit.

Case is nicly craftet but could have been sanded alot better.

No instructions for the idividual moduals but they are available online

All in all very happy apart from the A-190-4 midi ports
