Without deteriorating the original sound, the BOSS Compressor / Sustainer does his work unobtrusively but effectively (exactly what you would want from a good compressor). Peak levels are limited while the quiet passages are raised, serving the assertiveness (especially clean tones), and generating a more balanced sound. At extreme settings, a significant extension of the sustain is possible - suitable if you want to play a solo with cleaner amplifier setting. The CS-3 is versatile adjustable, noteworthy is the tone control that can compensate for a loss of height with heavy compression.

Good piece of gear, but not for me

This is very popular chorus and I can see why. It is Boss, it is very good quality, it has a lot of options but most important of all, it is virtually transparent. There is no distortion (like in MXR dyna comp for example).

But the reason I don't want to use this and I'm probably going to sell this for something else, is that it makes the signal quieter. What I want is a compressor that makes the quiet notes louder and only the loudest notes quieter, just that they don't clip. This compressor however makes all fairly loud notes quieter, equalling less gain by the time the signal reaches the preamp/distortion. So instead of making the playing easier (which is what compressors are supposed to do), it makes it harder. And before you say that I should just turn the level up, I need to say that if I do turn it up, it makes the distortion sound more muffled.

Pros:
+ Virtually transparent compressor
+ Quite a lot of options
+ competitive price
+ Virtually endless sustain if needed
+ Able to make that clean twangy country sound
+ It's Boss, quality effect in a durable metal box with options for either 9V battery and/or 9V DC power cable

Cons:
--- It makes the signal quieter, making the playing harder with distortion, thus rendering this useless on a distortion channel
- quite tricky to get the sound you are looking for
- It's Boss: generic effect, in a box without a button (like MXR), but a pedal instead and pressing it on a cramped pedal board is a bit tricky

Aika paljon suhinaa ja vinkunaa

Ostin tämän aikoinaan tavoitellessani pitkää sustainia yhdessä särön kanssa, mutta siihen tästä ei oikein ollut, kun sustainia lisätessä alkaa korvissa vinkumaan melko pienelläkin levelillä.

Onneksi pedaalissa oli myös kompressori- sekä attack-namiskat, joten ostos ei ollut turha. Olenkin käyttänyt tätä pääosin kompurana.
